Topic: Best Marillion Song (Fish era) Posted: June 30 2010 at 18:31 |
Pick your favourite of the list, or if it is not on the list, tell us which Marillion song from Fish era is the best for you. After a looooooooooot of thinking I decided I will give my vote to Script For A Jester's Tear. It's simply sublime.

I think Grendel for me. It was a bit of an odd end and was imitative of Supper's Ready, but I like it.

For my money, "Kayleigh" is their best track. Gorgeous ballad, with a searing guitar solo.

I´d go with Grendel you know is the first and last epic (the longest) of Marillion, but it was inspired by Supper`s Ready (some sections are quite the same "apocalypse in 9/8) anyway I like it....... instead I´ll go with another great song: Fugazi gets my vote!

Coin toss between Script for a Jester's Tear and Grendel. Finally opted for Grendel. This is seriously one of the best eras in prog, however.

Script For A Jester's Tear. For many reasons. First song in first album and very powerful long perfect song. you can find many vocal style in this song . different voices for different parts of song. Vocal change direction of song as a leader.

Other - Lords of the Backstage, leading onto Blind Curve. Full of venom, passion, and epitomising everything that was great about this ear of the greatest band to walk the planet.

I have to go for other - 'Three Boats Down From the Candy' I'll remember you
I think it was the first thing I ever heard by them. On some radio programme. I had read stuff in the music papers and this convinced me that they were more than just Genesis imitators like some of the papers were saying. Even though it was a b side I always thought it should have been on the first album
However I do think its an updated Cinema Show (Not musically you know)

Great choice Absolutely right in what you're saying too - it was clear from the very earliest days that they were far more than mere imitators.
