The band Coil, which has revolutionized modern music throughout sonic structures coming from the deepest and darkest bottom of underground music, with influences gathered from XX. century and contemporary music (Stravinsky, Stockhausen, Penderecki, Arvo Part and so on), and with fundamental influences on drone, ambient, industrial, minimalist and experimental music, admittedly expressing interest and being attracted to artists like Tangerine Dream, Amon Düül II, Kraftwerk, Captain BFH etc, is to be considered highly determinant in progressiveness in music in every sense and beyond peradventure.

I moved the thread to Suggest New Bands.
For reference purposes, here are a couple of threads suggesting Coil for inclusion: Topic: Coil Topic: Coil for Progressive Electronic? Edited by Logan - August 09 2010 at 17:32 |

So, I read that it's not the first time they are suggested.
I think they are too much experimental for PA (and also a bit too much harsh and "dry"). Moreover, if we start with Coil, then will come Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse, SPK, Esplendor Geometrico, Zoviet France or other industrial acts - and the case of industrial music had already been a source for controversies on PA. |

^ I would agree with this if only their early albums were taken into consideration, but albums like Musick to Play in the Dark (volumes 1 and 2) and The Ape of Naples are much more than straight industrial. Lots of progressive material in those albums (and probably others I haven't explored yet).
Check out this track.. which I can only assume is some kind of homage to Tangerine Dream: Edited by Sckxyss - August 13 2010 at 19:52 |
