Two pretty good guitar players. Which one do you think is the more talented? Adrian Belew or Robert Fripp?

Well if you're talking about technicality then I highly doubt anyone will deny that Fripp is more technically inclined. And other than that I just have to look at it as Fripp's music without Belew is better than Belew's music without Fripp.

Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

I love Adrian Belew's style of playing, but unfortunately you really can't put him up against one of the monsters of classic prog and not expect him to get whallopped in a poll

I fully expect Fripp to win this, but I know for a fact that Fripp is amazed by Belew's talent as a guiter player. As far as prog legends go, I would certainly expect Fripp to be the guitar player that most would side with. I think from a raw talent perspective, Belew outshines him. I think many get caught up in Belew's odd approach to playing the guitar which as he claims is his style. He admitted he could mimic anyone, but that style was more important. If I was starting up a band and had a choice between the two I would probably go with Belew, but that is based an awful lot on his other attributes as a musician. Versatility being one of them.

Fripp, no doubt in my mind, though these things are purely subjective. Fripp's big fault is his lack of attention to taste in favour of indulgence. But no-one can deny his skill and talent, and whatever your reservations, you have to admire his determination not to repeat himself.

Belew is extremely talented, but his playing is sort of a niche thing - he does what he does

100% FRIPP. If you know Fripp will win why you creat this topic? Many questions like this have one answer and I think 90% to up choose Fripp with no dubt.

I have to admit I dislike Belew's style. But one can't deny he's a talented musician indeed. Fripp is however not only a front man of King Crimson, but a front man of progressive rock itself.

I have a poll question which is going to be slightly closer: What do you prefer breathing:- Oxygen or carbon dioxide?

I enjoy both, but in terms of overall showmanship Belew wins it pretty easily. Sure, Fripp wins as far as pure technical ability goes, but as far as the overall package goes, Belew was good enough for not only Fripp, but Zappa, Talking Heads, etc. I'll give him another vote!

With that, you have no choice really (the CO2 and O2 thing). Often it's not just a matter of who wins these polls, it's often about your input. I don't personally feel that Fripp is 'God' amoung prog guitarists, although I'm sure many would think so. You must consider that Belew did a large part of the writting for the band, fronted the band, and added much needed color to the band. He plays the guitar effortlessly as well, so I really don't think there is that much separating them as far as technical prowess goes even though the poll would indicate otherwise.

Both great players but I went with the obvious choice. The Jedi master.

Fripp. Still, I enjoy the textural aspects of Belew's playing.

Man, if you had said which one was BETTER I would've gone with Fripp in a heartbeat. But you said talented, so I had to give it to Belew.
