Topic: Embryo vs. Agitation Free Posted: August 24 2010 at 23:41 |
Which of these jazzy krautrock bands do you like more?
My vote goes to Embryo, but Agitation Free are really good as well.

I've only heard Embryo's first two, and those are very good, but I love Agitation Free's Malesch. So from what I know, which may not be enough for a fair vote, Agitation Free.

Oh dear. Their four next are all essential, and kind of perfect for your tastes. Then there's Embryos Reise.

I only just discovered Embryo two months ago, but I already have 8 albums and they're all fantastic. I've only heard one Agitation Free album, but I've had it for years. Coincidentally, I just put it on a couple of days ago, and I'm listening to Embryo as I type this.
My vote goes to Embryo. Something intangible about this band that let me know the minute I first heard them that I was really going to like them. It resonates with me, and I'm not even sure why yet. I remember Secret Oyster had a similar effect on me way back when.

Now that would have been a great double bill back in the day,Embryo and Secret Oyster.

Thanks, and that is the main reason why I often like to mention what I know and don't know -- for recommendations. I forgot to mention Embryo's Reise, which I do have, but don't have my collection handy which is why I forgot it (sense of deja vu, I think you recommended it to me before), and it is very good, but I'll definitely look into the other four (and revisit Embryo's Reise when I can, since I haven't heard it for a long time).

Hi,
Embryo could be said to be jazz ... Agitation Free was not about jazz or rock, but about it mixing eastern influences into their music and electronics with it. I really do not see any "jazz" in AF.

I like both bands, but this is not really a fair pairing. Agitation Free´s first two are brilliant, but Embryo released: Opal, Rache, Father son and holy ghost´s, Steig aus, Rocksession, We keep on and Reise. No contest for me.
