I've just ordered DVD of Alturas de Macchu Picchu from Argentina and curious to see extra material, since I've seen it only on divx, very badly ripped.

I'm listening right now to Las Jaivas pre-Todos Juntos work ... the album is entitled En Valparaiso ... a lot of improvised psych, many short songs, but one of two excellent longer pieces ... I'm not sure but I think the album I have is an expanded version of El Volantin! Is La Voragine Box like this ... or is it the High Bass material?

I love los jaivas!! They're absolutely great! The best albums for me are "Cancion del Sur" and "Alturas deMmachu Picchu" Both are fantastic albums, specially alturas with greats songs like: La poderosa Muerte and sube a nacer conmigo hermano. It's a pity that they aren't very well know

For a long time I live asking myself why the land is so round and an alone one not more.
If we live all separated why are the sky and the sea, why is the sun that lights us if us do not we wantneither to look at.
So many griefs that go us carrying to all al final cu‡ntas nights each night of tenderness we will have to give.
Why live so separated if the land wants to join us, if this world is one and for all all together we are going to live.
How far off is this translation of a song I cannot get out of my head!?!

When I started to work for Prog Archives early 2004 one of my first contribution was a biography for Los Jaivas in order to promote this unique progrock, as Sean is doing at this moment! So here's another push towards the homepage, DISCOVER THIS EXCELLENT BAND.
And if you want to watch a Minimoog at a few thousands meters height, the DVD is yours !

That is a pity ... how about Blops?
BTW, is Victor Jara still well-known in Chile? Both as a musician and as a hero?
|
Yes, Victor Jara is still remembered as one of the greatest musicians ever. Still, I'm a Congreso fan. "Los Jaivas" discography is a bit uneven, with two great albums, (Alturas de Machu Pichu and OBRAS DE VIOLETA PARRA), and a lot of other albums that are not quite an acomplishment in terms of music.

Not the easiest band in the world to track down ... but well worth it, IMO

I'm sorry but this time around ... I'm really confused as to why this topic was moved ... Los Jaivas is an great but little-known group listed on the site ... and Sean Trane was trying to promote some interest in it ... just as people start to respond, the thread gets moved
Doesn't make sense to me ... there seems to be no reason to move this thread ...
Sorry, admin guys ... I'm not hot and bothered or trying to cause extra work ... I'm just really confused about this one
Cheers!
