YES!  May I add Cygnus X-1 and Xanadu to the mix as well?

I can't answer this.  It would require me to choose between Christian Vander, Tatsuya Yoshida, Jaki Liebezeit, and others.  I can't choose between them.

Mike Portnoy
5. ShutDOWN (Office Of Strategic Influence)
4. Nightmare (Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold)
3. Another Won (The Majesty Demos 1985 - 1986)
2. In held ('twas) in I (SMPTe)
1. Vacant (Train Of Thought)

Train of Thought is the ultimate drumming album and "Vacant" is nothing short of percussion brilliance. Highly recommended.

Wait... I think my favorite drummer is actually Gavin Harrison. Sorry Gavin, it's hard to remember a guy who didn't just quit his 24-year-old band.

Hi,

And I miss Pierre tremendously ... not only was he fabulous to make Gong's music as good as it was, he also make Mike Oldfield look good on stage ... make sure you get the EXPOSED DVD for a total treat and then some ... and tears too ... because it is special!

Gong with Pip was jazz'y, with Chris was easy music ... but with Pierre it had a rock edge that fit and made the music stronger ... and yes, side 2 of YOU is the best exhibition of drumming ever done in rock music.  The majority of drummers can not get off the 4 beats to even consider doing what Pierre did in there and did all the time in his sleep and then some!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Wink John Bonham
Achilles Last Stand
Moby Dick
Kashmir
How Many More Times
Whole Lotta Love
And many many more...........................Power in his rock, feeling in his blues, regular jazzy beats.
The complete drummer.
I wish his boy Jason all the success in his future projects. I´m sure he knows he has a tuff act to follow.
But he´s brilliant too.
