To be fair to her: I used to be a fan Heino once Embarrassed, a German singer who is extremely popular with old ladies. Nothing could be more embarrassing than mentioning this. He has a tgood baritone voice though, but his music. I have no diea what came over me at that time of myy admittedly quitre early life. To demonstrate what I am guilty of here a short clip of heino:

washing our dirty linen in public, are we? LOL well, Friede was obviously too ashamed to reveal her equivalent of my having been a Raiderette - she was a Funkenmariechen once! too bad I don't have any evidence of that here; Friede destroyed all photos of her as a Funkenmariechen. her parents have a lot of photos of that monstrosity in their family album Friede was with the Prinzengarde (Prince's guard).
in case you don't know what a Funkenmariechen is: they are female dancers in the Cologne carnival. here a short clip of a Fnkenmariechen of  the Prinzengarde:

it is funny, but what you are actually saying is that anyone who does not put Peart among the top five of his or her list of drummers consider you to be ignorant. go wash your head

it appaentlys is. else why your attack on hawkwise? Neil's skills arfe not exceptional at all. you may have a personal preference for him, which I am perfectly fine with, but if you honestly think that his skills exceed that of other great drummers then you are mistaken

I understood the same... even worse, I understood that "anyone who does not think that Peart is the best drummer ever is ignorant"...
I know, tastes are tastes and there's no problem about it. You consider Peart the best drummer ever, I'm perfectly fine with it.
But, as I said before, I can name a huge number of drummers I prefer. Speed and even the utmost technique are not important for a drummer: first come feeling, "drive", emotions, a little touch of humour too...

Whoa... Seems people are very passionet on there dislike of Neil Peart. Well, most critics and fans alike dub him best drummer of all time so your quite outnumbered. He's up there for me. I also have no idea what you all mean when you say he sounds cold or stiff? He's one of the most lively and active drummers ever? To each his own I guess Confused

Bah, there is only one way of dealing with this. Here are a few drum solos by excellent drummers. Mr. SnowDog, the unidsputable expert on drumming, will analyze them and with his superior mind explain in technical detail why Peartg exceeds the others. Mr. Peart first:

Now Jon Hiseman:

Now Pierre Moerlen (ihe takes over after a minute or so):

Now Mani Neumeier:

Now Christian Vander:

Please use technical terms in your analysis. I am absolutely confident that we will all benefit greatly from the insights SnowDog will give us on these solos. Your turn, Mr  SnowDog!

OK.

This has really run its course.

Seems to me that if you are not a fan of Rush you won't have taken much time to analyse Peart's drumming and if you are a fan of Rush you might over-estimate his skills.

Safe to say that we know Friede and Jean's opinion on Peart's merits so really why go on repeating them ad nauseam?

Neil Peart is an author and a musician. He gives to good causes and is a good citizen by most everyday measures. His band have sold over 40 million albums and he has built up a sizeable reputation as a technically skilled rock drummer and he has inspired many people to take up the drums.
He would like it known that  though he doesn't consider himself to be the best drummer in the world, he certainly isn't the worst.
