Are these those guys who are famous on PA because of Clem's reviews?

indeed - early albums such as Chase the Dragon are worth investigating

Listen to their excellent debut album "Kingdom Of Madness". If that's not Prog, I don't know what is. . .
Their new albums (from "Brand New Morning" onwards) are really good, and a return to the form they had in the late 70s and early 80s.
Always excellent live too. . .

Wish they would come over to North America. Bob Catley is one of the best singers in the business and Tony Clarkin is a terrific songwriter. Critically underrated in North America because they aren't prog enough, and aren't metal enough, but a great combination of the two

I remember that Magnum were very keen to break into the US market in the 80s, and their more commercial songs from that time like "Rocking Chair" were written specifically with that market in mind, but they just couldn't crack it. What they should have realised was that the US audience would probably be more interested in their original idiosyncratic British sound. Or maybe the time just wasn't right: this was the 80s (big hair, power ballads, synth drums. . .) after all.

I got really excited about this announcement... but then I realized that I misread the band's name.

I really love Magnum's debut album but everything else I've heard has left me in the cold. The two concerts I've seen have been pretty avarage... sorry Magnum fans but it takes a non-believer to speak the truth!
