Can anyone tell me if Sun Ra have been formerly rejected? I think worth discussing as a possible J/R/Psych inclusion?

Here is an old link below.

Sun Ra predates the invention of fusion and is not really related to rock at all nor the progressive movement. Sun Ra is great but really has nothing to do with the genre, could be Prog Related at best.

Sun Ra is definitely related to (part of) the progressive movement -- the progressive jazz one in particular. I think his Languidity (1978) could comfortably fit in JRF and others are considerable.  He's certainly been discussed by JRF team members -- don't think he's ever been formally evaluated. What a massively intimidating discography though.

I think Sun Ra would be great to add to PA at some time. There are those why know him much better than I, though.

As for him pre-dating the invention of Fusion, don't see why that's an issue since he continued making music long past Fusion's "glory years".

Incidentally, this is a favourite of mine from the 50's.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I have always felt that Sun Ra belongs here. Some of his stuff is way proggier than a lot of the other jazz artists we have admitted.

I have only skimmed that massive discography of his.
I he pre-dated the invention of Fusion, that sounds like all the more reason to add him if you ask me.
The samples above are heaven, need to have that 50's album like now!

Probably will be considered by the 'experts' that it is too experimental rather than progressive - and would probably have to agree with them.  I see him in the realms of avant-garde jazz.
