Anything prog-related that just plain bothers you.

Mine is when people say "prog metal" instead of "progressive metal".  There's a difference Angry

^ A lot of progressive rock doesn't sound like "prog", and that makes "prog purists" to go wild - which I absolutely hate. I wish the term "prog" didn't appear at all, but it's too late.

The aversion of many to commercial success, something I have never understood.

I'm afraid I may be one of those who you are referring to, but I don't go wild, progressive music can sound whichever way it wants to sound, and I may like it or I may not, I just  regret that too often people mix the 2 terms as if they were equivalent.

Wailing, incoherent saxophone lines. I've been listening to lots of Captain Beefheart lately, and it just pisses me off when someone starts blowing several endless minutes of completely non-structured toots and honks. Mars Volta is also guilty of this, small wonder.

-people who think Itchcock started prog
-people who say things like "Pink Floyd/Rush/Frank Zappa are/is NOT prog!"
-people who think 'prog' is completely different to 'rock' (the same goes for 'punk' and 'metal' fans who say similar things)

Bands who tick the superficial "prog" boxes, but lack substance. Also, people who are fooled by this - "This song is 10 minutes long! Wow! So proggy!" ¬¬ Especially when the song is only long because it repeats too many times!!

Oh, and people who think that all progressive artists took drugs in order to write their music. True of some, not of all...this sometimes makes people surprised when I say I don't do drugs, but like progressive rock. It makes sense to me!

A lot of people believe that when a band is progressive, this means that every song from their discopraphy is prog.
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

not saying I think ITCOTCK is the first prog album but what do you think the first prog album is?

Caravan's first album from 1968 was one of the first albums to be described as 'progressive'. Apart from that, Moodies, Procol Harum, Zappa, Floyd and others were doing 'prog' before 1969.

I don't believe in 'the first prog album'. That's like asking what was the first country.

People who insist that you haven't heard it properly until you've heard it on vinyl.
