Something new for fans of early progressive rock...

Flash fan George Mizer has posted for the first time anywhere, live footage of FLASH performing in 1972 on TV's "Superstars of Rock" -

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flash/173818025979663#!/video/video.php?v=10150184972439129&comments

Note:  Someone removed this post from the "Prog News" forum, and placed it here.  I don't know why. This newly discovered, vintage piece of live footage of Flash was news to me - and the band, too!

Superstars of Rock - a tad exaggerated. Flash were support to Beck Bogert and Appice when I saw them in 1973........

Hi Dick,

I had never heard of Flash when I met Ray in 1980, several years after their break-up.  Their Top 40 hit, "Small Beginnings sounded a bit familiar, so I'd probably heard it on the radio, but I didn't remember it.  Flash weren't around long enough to become a household name, but they had a good start on it before their untimely split, and were the 'golden boys' of Capital Records when they appeared on this TV show with The Who.

I'd never heard of the show, 'Superstars of Rock', either!

But it's fun to finally get a glimpse of them in action.  I'm glad this surfaced...

Have said that most curious to see the footage.

I have to say that over-hyping a band, is likely to have little effect on sales. As a parallel, talking to DJ's much younger than me at this radio station, if I mention the likes of King Crimson, most will return a blank look of non-recognition....

I always felt that way about King Crimson!  I knew nothing about them until I met Ray and Bill.

On the other hand, kids are more and more into 'classic rock' these days - they know all the big names.  It's better than most of what they're being offered now.

I'd just like to hear more good rock 'n roll, but NEW.  I'm counting on Flash to contribute.

P.S.  Flash was much bigger in America than in England.  They headlined, and played bigger and better venues.  For instance, here's a piece of memorabilia - they headlined at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in NYC.  Look who else was on the bill...

Flash received a nice write-up on their reunion and upcoming album as well as interview with founding member, Ray Bennett, in the special progrock February edition of Goldmine Magazine.
