Both. The amplitude (highlights vs deceptions) of Invisible Touch is far greater. though...

We Can't Dance is longer and has more songs to extract from, but Invisible Touch is a shorter, tighter record. Actually I like the self-titled (toy shapes) album better than either of those two.

I prefer Invisible Touch.
|
I am currently digging: Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz! Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

Count me in for 'We Can't Dance' - the track 'Fading Lights' alone makes it worthwhile......

For me, it's We Can't Dance. Even though "I Can't Dance" is god awful and is one of the worst Genesis songs ever written, many of the other songs on the album have a very nice smooth feel to them, I like songs like "No Son of Mine" and "Hold on My Heart" for what it's worth. It's a nice guilty pleasure so to speak. Invisible Touch has some good songs too ("In Too Deep" is the best for me I admit), but doesn't really resonate with me all that much in comparison to its successor.

Never heard either so well, my completely biased opinion is purely based on the singles that went with them.

Never heard them. Should I change that?

We Can't Dance has better songs like Fading Lights, Dreaming While You Sleep, Driving the Last Spike; these three make this album win for me over Invisible Touch (which has only two great songs - Domino and land of Confusion).

Well stated. I've always thought that We Can't dance is underrated on this site. I've never liked Invisible Touch.

For me it has to be We Can't Dance, if only for the instrumental in Fading Lights.

Despite being one of the simplest Genesis albums, Invisible Touch has some really great tracks on it. We Can't Dance has a few good songs, but most of it is really boring

Hmmm............I suppose Invisible Touch, but I really don't listen to any Genesis beyond Wind & Wuthering.

I still haven't heard We Can't Dance in it's entirety. Invisible Touch was kind of the last straw for me with Genesis. I don't have a great dislike for this era of Genesis, I just have great indifference at this point.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
