I had forgotten this band until Warthur mentioned their second album Ranshart in  my thread on Yes sound-alikes. I went back to their first three albums and loved hearing again their blend of heavy progressive rock with jazz influences, not unlike a number of  their other Brain label-mates. It was a breath of fresh air after a spell of listening to more modern progressive rock bands. During the seventies, they were regarded as 'krautrock', despite being Norwegain, but  probably because of the Brain connection,  and were as popular as any such bands here in the UK.

Are there many other Ruphus fans here?

They sound like Yes but yet they're krautrock? That doesn't compute. I'll have to check it out.

Their first album was a great heavy prog album. Their second album saw them trying really hard to replicate the early Yes sound, which I honestly feel was a mistake.

Don't forget that here in the UK, even Golden Earring were classified  as krautrock (in magazines, record shops, etc) - which seemed ridicululous at the time.

New Born Day is one of the best norwegian albums out there. Gudny Aspaas is amazing on this album.

Maybe I was a bit unclear, but 'New Born Day' is Ruphus' best album, and Gudny Aspaas was one of their vocalists.
