Brand X is getting ready for a tour of the US this summer. Some of the shows will also carry a double bill with Ambrosia.
Who is Brand X these days? John Goodsall, Percy Jones and Ronnie Ciago (Patrick Moraz, CIRCA, Jeff Berlin, Jaco Pastoruis). Along them is keyboardist David Sancious (Bruce Springsteen E Street Band). Keep your eyes open for tour dates (they haven't been announced yet). In the meantime, here is one of the teaser posters.

A little background on who is Brand X today:

Percy Jones (born 1947) is a Welsh bass guitarist, and was a member of jazz fusion band Brand X,[1] from 1974 to 1980, and a reformed version which lasted from 1992 to 1997. Residing in New York,[2] he currently is a member of jazz fusion band, Tunnels,[3]along with drummer Walker Adams.

Jones is best known for his unique bass sound,[3] and his trademark use of the fretless Wal bass.

Jones was also a member of the jazz fusion group Soft Machine, the Poetry Rock group The Liverpool Scene (featuring poet Adrian Henri), and has contributed to recordings by David SylvianBrian Eno,[2] Steve HackettParanoiseSuzanne Vega, and Fovea Hex, amongst others.

John Goodsall is a progressive rock & jazz fusion guitarist[1] most noted for his work with Brand XAtomic Rooster and Fire Merchants.Brand X returns in 2012 with John Goodsall,David Sancious-keyboards,Percy Jones and drummer Ronnie Ciago for a planned US Tour this summer.

Goodsall was born in Pennsylvania and has lived in Los Angeles, England, Milan and Minnesota. He began playing guitar at age 7. At 15, he became a professional musician and joined Carol Grimes' Babylon, with members of Joe Cocker's Grease Band, Juicy Lucy and Jon Hiseman's Colosseum. He then toured extensively, first with The Alan Bown Set, then with Atomic Rooster.

After Brand X's 1979 world tour (the last with Phil Collins), Goodsall moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician and as a member of the band Zoo Drive(1980–1987) which included Doug Lunn, Paul Delph and Atomic Rooster drummer Ric Parnell (aka Mick Shrimpton of Spinal Tap). Goodsall also performed and/or recorded with Bill Bruford,Desmond Dekker & The AcesPeter GabrielBilly IdolBryan AdamsToni Basil to name a few.

The Fire Merchants released two albums, Fire Merchants and Landlords Of Atlantis before Goodsall and Percy Jones re-formed Brand X as a trio in 1992 with drummer Frank Katz. Katz was in Jones' band Tunnels with whom Goodsall also recorded on their album Progressivity. This Brand X line-up released X-Communication and Manifest Destiny, which also featured Tunnels' midi-vibes player Marc Wagnon and some keyboards & composition by Franz Pusch. Most of the keyboard/synthesiser sounds however in both Brand X & Fire Merchants trios were triggered by his midi-guitar. Goodsall's Brand X trio played mostly on the west coast. In 1997 Brand X embarked on a 3 month tour of Europe & Japan as a quartet with Goodsall,Jones, keyboardist Kris Sjobring from his L.A. based group Trancendental Medication, & drummer Pierre Moerlen from Gong. Later versions of this group released The X-Files and Missing Period, they played the west coast again in 1999 including a headline show at Progfest in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Goodsall has 2 daughters Germaine and Natasha.

He played live with John Goodsall's Ghost Society in 2008, performing music of Brand X. Other members included Jim Reiske, Jim Steele & Dave Lemish. Recent albums featuring John Goodsall include Franz Pusch 'Only Visions' and Leon Alvarado 'Strangers In Strange Places'.

He was an early member of Bruce Springsteen's backing group, the E Street Band, and contributed to the first three Springsteen albums, and again on the 1992 album Human Touch. Sancious is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known as a keyboard player and guitarist.[1] He left the E Street Band in 1974 to form his own band, Tone, and released several albums. He subsequently became a popular session and touring musician, most notably for Stanley ClarkeNarada Michael WaldenZucchero FornaciariPeter Gabriel, and Sting among many others.

I'm friends with Goodsall & have spoken with him about this.  2012 tour never happened, Sancious was committed to a tour with Sting, and Goods is still trying to formulate something.

The good news is that John is keeping his hat in the ring, playing & recording (studio work).  He wants to do something, but this is a challenging era for live music & recording.  Lots & lots of really talented folks are on the outside, looking in, and hoping for a break.

Kinda sucks, JG can blow down the door with his guitar!  I'll let everyone know if something new happens.

Hey, if JG ever wants to get together a crowd online to record and release Don't Make Waves 2013, I'd sign up. Love his playing and writing.

I asked Goods about it & he sent me this message:

Chuck that whole plan got f'd up last year, twice!
I'm afraid nothing on the cards for brand x right now but don't count us out!
Going in studio today, new Murdock tracks. He's been keeping us quite busy. Best - johN
===

As he said, don't count them out!  I'm working hard on some jazz-rock stuff in Chicago and will see if I can't tempt John out (he's a short plane-flight away).  It may not be Brand X as advertised, but it will be good!  More to follow as it happens.  You folks will be the first to know.
