I only have two Tortoise albums - the s/t debut one and "TNT".  Both are pleasant enough, but I'm failing to grasp what's so amazing about this group.  Any recommendations for me, to help me appreciate it more?

Get Millions Now Living Will Never Die and/or Standards. Both much better than the two you have. TNT gets a lot of love from some but I think it's one of their weaker albums.

I'm listening to Millions Now Living Will Never Die right now. I obviously haven't heard enough to come up with a list of favourites, but all I can tell you is that these guys are fantastic! Some really beautiful and experimental stuff going on. Sounds like a cross between Part The Second era Maudlin Of The Well and Explosions In The Sky. These guys are obviously a big influence on the Post Rock and Math Rock movements.

I like TNT better than the s/t debut one, which just sounds a bit clinical and boring.  TNT has a cool jazz sound going for it, but there's nothing really "wild" about it.  I'll deffo check out "Millions Now Living".  Everything I've read says that one is the shiz.  (I've never said "shiz" before, but now seemed like a good time to start).

TNT is probably my favorite, but millions is probably more "prog rock accessible".
I've had millions since fairly soon after its release, but I only recently got their debut.  I haven't quite "got" it yet, though.  Smile

As for my top 10 songs, I have no idea offhand.
