this is a band featuring Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden and some other fellows from Seattle scene, they had a album out in 2009 filled with sludgy/doomy yet psychadelci and highly eclectic mix if instruments, layers and intriguing instrumentation,

as CD baby recomends them, if you like King Crimson, Melvins and Neurosis; then this band will be what you are after, they are highly obscure and sparse of info, but they have a web page were you can listen to ceveral tracks in their interety, also use of non-standard rock instruments is also featured like saxophone, tubular bells, viberophone and different spacy noises.

their sound is unique, heavy yet intrguing, loose yet tight, crushing but also delicate, tranquelising but also energic

other pages labeling might pinpoint their place here

sorry if this site is by some kind ileagell http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/anunnaki

this is their crown jewl of a song

this song is more experimental in styel, even some saxophone

Don't you just love it when there are two bands with exactly the same name which both fall under the general umbrella of the particular brand of music we call 'prog'!! There is this one based in Seattle, that aginor has kindly suggested, and another one which is basically the project of a guy named Mark Vanstone, based in Buckingham, UK.

Now you'd think that an unusual name like 'The Anunnaki' would be a fairly safe bet as a unique label for your music, but obviously not, so it looks like this suggestion will have to be re-named 'The Anunnaki (USA)' and another thread will have to be started eventually for 'The Anunnaki (UK)', since although that project is still a work in progress, & due to finish in December this year, the end result is going to be a fine collection of Neo (or Crossover) Prog, which will surely have to be added to our site.

For the time being I will create a thread for 'The Anunnaki (UK)' in the 'Unsigned Bands' forum (since Mark actually runs a commercial company called TechnoVisual, which produces a wide range of multimedia including short runs of CD and DVD packs for other indie artists, as well as releasing his own stuff).

But getting back to the topic in hand here, yes - 'The Anunnaki (USA)' should be a fit on the site somewhere - they are all the sub genres suggested in the topic title, pretty unique sounding, and their album as described on cdbaby's page for it (link given in aginor's o.p.) reads as follows:

"Based out of Seattle, The Anunnaki is a trio lead by Dave French which sometimes grows to a quintet or even septet! Their latest release (self titled) “…is a genre all its own” says Seattle D.J., Selector T. It features ground-breaking (and ground-shaking) performances from the likes of Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden), Spencer Moody (Murder City Devils), Nate Spicer (Nepotistas) and many others.

Written and recorded in more than a dozen cities and/or remote locations around the U.S. and Europe, The Anunnaki, is a journey both sonically and literally where tightly orchestrated studio recordings flow seamlessly together with field recordings of (and you would never guess it by listening) clotheslines, beached buoys, windmills and castle-ruins used as musical instruments. The dense atmosphere of this diverse recording envelopes the listener and keeps him/her spellbound through some of the sharpest turns and most drastic changes of mood and scenery since King Crimson’s Red.

Heavy like the Melvins, while spacious like Pink Floyd, The Anunnaki, The Anunnaki is music for the flexible ear that enthusiasts with a penchant for the sharp, edgy and diverse will love from beginning to end!"

OK...Now for the OTHER Anunnaki.... Ermm

Edit: - And you can read all about that here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=85693.  Big smile

Intruiging listen, a mix of King Crimson, Melvins and Neurosis is a fitting description indeed.
The sleazy crunch of Melvins dominates for me so i'm not sure if they fit the Prog bill.

They were added to progfreak about a month ago, not long after the original post, but no votes have been cast as yet. You can follow the evaluation, once it starts, here: http://progfreak.com/The-Annunaki-152864.html?path=pa/recent. Thumbs Up

This one is currently delicately poised at two a-piece, with NecronCommander now having the all-important deciding vote. Tongue
If anyone reading this can update progfreak entries, the reason aginor couldn't find this band when he looked for it on there at the end of April is that the spelling is wrong - they have it entered on progfreak as 'Annunaki', when it should read 'Anunnaki'. Minor matter I know, but it defeats a correctly entered search string instantly. Embarrassed
