Saperlipopette has talked about The Beyond before, and I think Frizzi's the Beyond soundtrack is a great album.  I have some others by him too.  I adore The Beyond, and City of the Living Dead is really good, and like Manhattan Baby muchly too.  I did a topic on such music, but other than Saperlipopette and me, there doesn't seem to be people who have been really into Italian soundtrack and library music composers.

And I'm not sure if soundtrack composers are considered appropriate.   The one in PA that it's closest to is Goblin which did make similar music, and Goblin played on Frizzi's first soundtrack (and they have collaborated more).

I'd love to see a lot of related composers in PA, but don't really expect much.

This certainly sounds like good instrumental prog to my ears - even if these are all scores from horror films. Don't know what sub you'd file it under though. Confused

As for whether or not soundtrack composers should be considered appropriate for PA - it's all about the music isn't it? If the scores they compose can be heard as progressive rock, then I see no reason at all why they shouldn't be eligible for evaluation. Smile

I'd take it to RPI.

By the way, here's a Goblin (under the name Il Reale Impero Britannico) and Frizzi collaboration for a soundtrack.

An "ear-candy" Edda del Orso, Goblin, and Fabio Frizzi collaboration:

I agree with you about the music being what's important, but I had a disagreement with someone about that before, so i thought I'd raise that concern even though I don't share that POV.

Excellent stuff again!
If Goblin is here in RPI, then it seems fairly reasonable to expect Fabio Frizzi to stand a decent chance there too. Hopefully there will be more comments in this thread from some of the other collabs, and maybe if the consensus is favorable he can be given a try?  Ermm

He was discussed and not approved in 2009.  We could take another look I suppose.   It would be very helpful if someone could list here the two single most "RPI-like" releases he has, so that we can cut right to the chase and hear what you consider the best work in the RPI vein.   I'm not a big expert on these soundtrack guys but I wonder if PR isn't more appropriate than RPI for them.

Anyway, give me two album titles and some time, and we'll check it out.  Thanks!Smile

I love the Italian soundtrack guys.  Not many fans here, though.

In terms of his proggiest, then the first two I mentioned, and posted youtube tracks for would be fine for evaluation I would think (L'Aldila/ The Beyond and City of The Living Dead), but in terms of Italian flavour, Amore Libero is more up that alley -- however, it's poppy soundtrack music.

That said, and this would count against him perusing some youtube tracks I would think would give enough indication without listening to two full albums (as is common with soundtracks, and a lot of those Italian guys) themes get repeated in different ways.  Various soundtracks are rather samey.

I had a little look at the RPI team thread now, and see that The Beyond and City of the Living Dead was recommended before, which are my top two picks anyway.  And Manhattan Baby is my other.  Hmm....

I'll look some more into your thread when I have time to see what the general consensus was, and if no rejection but no firm decision, then perhaps I can help build on that -- useful for me to see the feelings expressed.

Thanks for the picks Greg.....we'll add this one to the evaluation list and report back when the team decides.  It will take  quite a while though, we still have some other stuff to get through first and are pretty busy lately IRL.  GrazieThumbs Up

L'Aldila/ The Beyond - Is true italian symphonic prog, and really should be enough for inclusion.

Sette Note in Nero. Frizzi with Bixio/Tempera. Another occasionally proggy album in a sort of Goblin, but more electronic kind of way.

Most 60's-70's italian movie composers has created many hours of music that fits under the prog umbrella. Especially: Stelvio Cipriani, Bruno Nicolai, Giorgio Gaslini, Egisto Macchi, Franco Bixio and of course Ennio Morricone.

And added: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7421

Now I have to do the discography.

By the way, that Sette Note In Nero is my favourite soundtrack involving him so far.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.
