Has anyone heard the new Storm Corrosion album yet? Got my copy yesterday, and am completely blown away. Not like anything you'd expect ... very morose and disturbing ... really hits a very raw nerve. The music borders on being painful, but try as you might, you can't stop listening. It totally sucks you in. Just don't expect to listen to this album, and walk away feeling happy and upbeat. You won't ... you can't. This all said, the album is amazing and very satisfying. The music is stunning and the production absolutely top notch.

Awesome Princess Mononoke avatar.

I really enjoy the new Storm Corrosion, way more than Steven Wilson's latest solo album. It makes me want to lay down in a cave and just hate myself in a creepy atmosphere.

What do you mean the "new" Storm Corrosion album? There is only one. From the title topic I thought there was a second already released.

As someone who is vehemently anti-hype, I didn't really want to like this album. As someone who recognizes the fact that Steven Wilson could take a crap on a waffle and prog fans would still vote it #1, I often find myself rooting against him. As someone who has never found a way to appreciate Opeth, I figured this was the album where I could definitively turn up my nose at the Wilson hype parade.

I can't. It's a fascinating album. It's really, really good.

The album is good but not great. I think they tried to do the unexpected but have not pulled it of completely.

I got mine a while ago, don't know why everyone else took so long.

It's a bit ambient and long-winded for my liking, but still good, at least a 4 star.

The album is brilliant. It has internal coherence top to bottom. A 5 star!

Mehhh.....its background music for me, I can't imagine giving the album a good serious sitdown listen, I would never last before turning into a huge blob of grey depressing matter.

This album is probably as far as I can take SW.....I'm not an Opeth fan so no opinion about MA....I find it hard to even notice he is a part of this album.

Although I can see how people will love it.

An absolutely terrific record. I love that they didn't do what many expected, and instead did what they wanted to do. The vibe and feel of it is incredible, and, not surprisingly (as with most SW records), it sounds terrific.

I think the album is a 5-star masterpiece.  There is a lengthy article in this month's Prog magazine in which Mikael Akerfledt and Steven Wilson discuss the album.  Interestingly, Akerfeldt cites the later albums of Scott Walker to be a significant influence.  If you have never listened to 'Tilt' or 'The Drift' by Scott Walker, then you must do so, as this is truly progressive music.  I love the fact that Storm Corrosion is nothing like an Opeth or Porcupine Tree album, but something  altogether different - an extraordinary expression of the true spirit of prog!

Absolutely love it (but then , I'm one of those fanboys who'll buy anything SW or MA are involved with). Haunting, ethereal, beautiful music.

I really liked it, but didn't love it. I'd probably give it around 4 stars. I love how it truly is progressive in the sense that they've never done anything like this before, but at the same time I feel like there aren't enough moments that really impress me. Still, definitely worth it and a good 4/4 stars, in my opinion.

After a couple of weeks and a few close listens, I think it's pretty good.  It really does sound like the two of them just jammed all night into a tape recorder and then edited it, cleaned it up, and developed on a few good ideas. I say that because it kind of sounds like what my friend and I used to do, just getting our minds out there, me on acoustic, him on electric, and just see what happens.  The main difference is a) they're much better players, b) they put a little more work into it than we did.  But I really don't feel like they labored over the pieces that much, they wanted something that sounded organic that captured a moment, and they got it.

I've been listening to it a few times on Spotify and have now decided to buy it. Good stuff indeed.

I would echo a few of the comments that in its favour its certainly original but on the downside lacks many really strong stand out moments.4 star album but not a masterpeice. Also I think I prefer GFD but that is closer to PT so is on safer territory.

It's simply amazing the way this album atracts you! Different comparing Arkelfeldt style in Opeth and SW's in Porcupine Tree Tongue
