Following on from the resounding success of Carpe Nota, who came here last week via progstreaming.com and earlyprog, and have already been cleared in Heavy Prog, we have here another wholly instrumental act - this time from Holland - who are also featured on progstreaming, but not for much longer since they have been on there for about 5 weeks already.

No YouTube samples for these guys (other than Marcel Haster's 'Liveprog' review), and it's only a three-track EP running to about 21 minutes, but it's pretty damn good!

Sylvium was formed in 2010 as a collaboration between Ben van Gastel and Fred Boks, and their first EP, "The Purified Trilogy", was entirely self-produced and recorded.

You can find all three tracks on myspace.com (along with a short bio): http://www.myspace.com/561645163
And their official website: http://www.sylvium.com/
Finally, the EP is being streamed on progstreaming.com, but this won't be for much longer: http://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00122+-+Sylvium+-+Purified+EP

Influences are stated as: Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Pink Floyd, Anathema, O.S.I., Rush, Steven Wilson etc.

That's probably all you need to know tbf, but here is Marcel Haster's video review of the EP anyway:

Sub genre? I'm going to go with Heavy Prog again...why change a winning formula eh? Tongue Just as with Carpe Nota however, there is also a symphonic vibe running through this music.

Edit: Interview with Ben van Gastel of Sylvium here: http://www.progwereld.org/cms/sylvium-%E2%80%93-bandpresentatie-dutch-exposure/ - it's conducted and written in Dutch, but run it through Google Translate and you should be able to get the gist of it. Big smile

Hi Ben! - And a big welcome to progarchives!  Hug  I'm really glad you posted this today because although this suggestion was referred to Heavy Prog almost a month ago, and the band was added to the progfreak.com website quite soon after by Andy of the Heavy Prog team (progfreak is a site which includes a charting facility that some of the teams use to keep tabs on the progress of their evaluations), Sylvium doesn't appear to have been actually added to Heavy Prog's evaluation chart on there as yet. This makes me ever so slightly concerned that the suggestion might have inadvertently taken a 'wrong turn' and ended up in a cul-de-sac...so...BUMP!  Embarrassed

HI Yam Yam,

Thank you very much for the welcome on this great forum.

I can see Sylvium being added to the Progfreak.com site (26 day ago) but the our EP Purified is not mentioned.

Please note: There will be a new 9min Sylvium track on the upcoming "Dutch Exposure Album" scheduled for release at 12/12/12 by Freia Music
More info (Dutch/ English) :  http://www.sylvium.com/exposure.pdf

Beside that I'm also working on a new (complete) album.

Love to hear from you.

And whilst on the subject...
From the band's website: http://www.sylvium.com/news.html
"We are proud to present you the lineup for the new upcoming Sylvium album scheduled for release in the second half of 2013"

Ben van Gastel - Guitar, Synths, Samples
Gijs Koopman (Ulysses, Ex- Knight Area, Cliffhanger) - Bass
Greg Geurtsen - Drums.
Jan Roel Koppen - Piano / Keyboard.

"With these four great musicians we will continue to develop the progressive instrumental sound already known from our first EP "Purified". The contribution of Gijs Koopman and his unique style combined with the other, will take us to a more progressive foundation. Bert Treep will continue to create some beautiful images for this piece. Please stay tuned for more upcoming information."

Sylvium announces their first full length album, entitled "the Gift Of Anxiety".
The album will be released on 13th September 2013 on the FREIA Music label.

Founding member Ben van Gastel (guitars/ keyboards) has teamed up for this album with Gijs Koopman (bass guitar), Greg Geurtsen (drums) and Jan Roel Koppen (piano).
The band will be perfoming live in the same line-up.
The album will contain five instrumental songs. However, Richard de Geest (from Ghost a.o.) will appear as guest vocalist on one track.

The musical style of rock and alternative mixed with ambient music that was first presented on the promising debut EP "Purified" (2012) will return on this album.
Each of the 6 tracks will create it's own meaning of the album theme anxiety.

The album will be released in a luxury cross digipak
