Hi, everyone I'm really interested in finding some "New" prog to listen to. As of now there are only three groups I listen to that came from the 2000's, The Mars Volta, Beardfish, and Astra. What I'm looking for is something more like The Mars Volta with the frantic drumming and high levels of experimentation. That's about it, I basically just need somewhere to start.
Thanks in advance!Big smile

I'm guessing you don't want any prog metal, right?

Steven Wilson
Porcupine Tree
No-Man
Spock's Beard
Neal Morse (beware the straight forward christian rock albums)
Transatlantic
The Tanget
The Flower Kings
Ozric Tentacles

I feel i'm missing a few here, but still, hope you enjoy.

There are a few bands that always gets mentioned here, I'll try and recommend something different. First of all if you are looking for something similar to The Mars Volta you can always go for Omar Rodrigez's solo albums, this is the closest you'll get.

Other bands which I find to be pretty special are:
Dreadnaught
Sky Architect
Flor De Loto
Estradasphere
Sieges Even
Umphreys McGee
Resistor

Kayo Dot, you'll certainly get the drumming and experimentation your looking for.

Taal, sort of, maybe:

Sagi, yeah, it's an excellent album. I like both Taal albums very much.  At first I didn't like Skymind as much as the debut, but I grew to like it more.  A somewhat similar band that I really love is Secret Chiefs 3.

I just thought of another one that might appeal to someone who like The Mars Volta -- Battles:

Haken is one of my favorite acts out there right now. Their new album Visions is just superb.
I consider drone metal to be progressive...

Couldn't agree more. Both their albums are really good.
