Hey fellow proggers,

Just spotted this rather nice Vertigo Swirl LP rarity on the following site...

Hardly see this one appear out of the woodwork so thought I'd mention it.

Worth a look for Aphrodite's Child, Vertigo aficionados or general Prog vinyl collectors!

Good find! I bought a vinyl copy almost thirty years ago but it does not have the Vertigo swirly label. Instead, the label features a couple of space ships. Mine is most certainly a reissue after Vangelis gained international fame and fortune with the Chariots of Fire soundtrack. My edition was manufactured in France.

It's a great album and shows what this band was really capable of. With Silver Kolouris back full time on guitar after his army stint and Vangelis' great compositions, as well as Demis Roussos' excellent vocals, this has a lot to offer. Oh yeah, Sideras' drums are boss too. In fact, Aegean Sea is one of my favorite Vagelis pieces. And how about that performance by Irene Papas? Crazy awesome!
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

Not into vinyl although I did own a copy on vinyl many years ago and it sounded brilliant , much better than the CD.

The section from Altamont through to Irene Papas doing her 'thing' is just amazing to me.

I have a 1972 Mercury issue VEL 2-500 It has the Vertigo Swirl and somehow the original interior dust jackets. Is this worth anything?

Hey Octopus, Not sure what that translates into US dollars. Sorry, we are just so provincial here in the states.

^ It's more  than 1000 EURO which translates into over 1300 bucks as far as I know.

I once bought a used copy for eight pounds, cleaned it up, only to discover it had groove damage. Still on the look out for a decent copy that doesn't cost a stupid amount.

I managed to pick up a CD copy in HMV Oxford Street a couple of years ago. Brilliantly weird album.

Its almost 'alternative progressive rock'. Easy to understand why it spooked the record company. The band had actually split up by the time it got released to 'cash in' on the success of Yes, ELP etc. Funny how Vangelis and Demis Rousos career paths diverged after. How could they have both been in the same band??
