Topic: Vangelis vs Mannfred Mann Posted: October 10 2013 at 07:20
two legends of the keybord who from 60s 70s 80s 90s and00s have spellbound audiencew with effects, innovarive playing, shimmering soundscapes.
Two ICONS of music Legends in flesh and spirit of rock
I really love Mannfred but i hear similariyes between Afrodites Child and in MMEB but also in earl Mannfred Mann band both loved ballads and mixed lots of styles.
I feel most comfortable voting for both. Major cop-out, but there's just no getting around how many albums I've got from both that I love. Faves include: Solar Fire, The Dragon, Nightingales & Bombers and Beaubourg(yep I love that one!)

I really enjoy and admire MM. His work is definitely underappreciated. That said, I have to go all the way with my main man, Vangelis, not just for his keyboard skills, but also for his compositions which move me in a way no other composer or artist does. The photo of him with Salvador Dali is my new favorite picture. Look at that one next time you listen to Beauborg, and it will all make sense!

MM is one of my favorite keyboard players, I love his diversity in sounds and of course his playing. But there's no point in voting here since I don't know Vangelis solo albums at all, based on his work with Aphrodite's Child I'll go with MM, but as I said no vote for now.

I was going to check Vangelis, because I own many more of his albums, but I don't want to shortchange Mann because as pointed out, he's a great MiniMoog player, and Solar Fire is a swell prog rock album.
And yes, Vangelis should be under Progressive Electronic, not Prog Related.

With the deepest respect this must be one of the silliest polls in a long time. Vangelis is much more versatile and innovative whilst MM has the energy to boil 100 kettles simultaneously -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------flatline--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I voted Vangelis (and I could happily waffle on about him all day) but Mann has produced one of the most genius moments in prog on the album version of Blinded By The Light. Following the bit ''Mama told be never to look into the eyes of the Sun , but Mama that's where the fun is''. That little piano refrain which I think is 'chopsticks'. Love it!
