I had on of my most impressive concert experience back in the 90's when the band had their first album out and i they played in front of 50 peoples in a small club. The guys were just in front of me like they were in my living room and i was completely blown away by their performance. It cost be 5$ to see that! It didn't take me anything more to become a fan

Mei is great, but their self-titled 2012 album is the best post-2000 album I have heard. it is in my top 10. Best track: Some Memorial, closely followed by Islands (the epic) and Locust to Bethlehem.

Big fan. Also have met the band personally a few times and interviewed them. I like most of their albums. Newbies should start with "as the world" or "suffocating the bloom."

Not a fan of Mei or As The World but man I love the debut along with Cowboy Poems Free, Suffocating The Bloom and The End Is Beautiful. Those four albums keep me quite satisfied as far a my Echolyn thirst goes.

Interesting how peoples favorites differ so much.  Kind of like Gentle Giant in that respect.  My faves are

Mei
as the world
The End Is Beautiful

But I love them all.  Got a "three pack" (first two albums plus ...and Every Blossom EP) from them back in 1993, just based on reviews.  Did not regret.  (Also got "the gardener's guide to STB" lyrics sheet.  What did I ever do with that thing?!  Looks like they have it online, though; cool!  http://www.echolyn.com/guides.asp?iAlbumID=2)  And I was so excited when I got as the world in '95!  Did not disappoint.

Super fun band. Suffocating the Bloom is by far my favorite. Great song writing on that album, and the production is stellar (the punch of those drums is crazy). 21, Winterthru, Reaping the Harvest, and the entire Suite for the Everyman remain some of my favorite songs, along with mei of course. Unfortunately, they're still too obscure for how good they are.

I was lucky to catch them in 1992, probably on the same tour that rdtprog saw them, in a rather dumpy club. They opened for a stripped-down version of Richard Sinclair’s Caravan of Dreams, and I had no idea who they were but was mightily impressed.

I was glad to see them get a major-label contract a couple years later, but it was kind of sad too, because you just knew the label wouldn’t do squat to promote the album.

So far I’ve only heard “Suffocating the Bloom” and “As the World.”

I think both Mei and the latest self-titled one are classics.

The 10-minute song (Speaking in) Lampblack off their last album is an absolute killer track.

I saw Echolyn in a private show during the "As The World" tour.   Architectural Metaphor opened.
It wasn't supposed to be a private show, but the four of us in our group were the entire audience.
Sony did nothing to give the band any publicity.

The band at least played an awesome set, and hung around to talk with us afterwards.
I felt bad, though.

I suppose that's why they never came back to Boston.  It's not much of a college town anyway.
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

I've been kind of binging on them of late. Never the Same from As the World just kept sticking in my head after hearing in on Pandora. Started looking for more information--and found they have a new one that they scheduled to come out this month!!

Funny that you mentioned the band...just before registering (of which I still need to choose an avatar, I suppose) there was a subscriber that used Echolyn's cover art as their avatar. I never witnessed them live, but am a proud owner of their debut CD...of which I can only imagine is hard to find. They composed some seriously complex material that would only be enjoyed by the 'fringe coefficient.' What are they doing now?

Making music, man!  They had a release in 2012, and apparently have a new one coming soon (not sure how soon is soon).
