Topic: Prog/Non Prog Battle: Doors vs Velvet Underground Posted: January 17 2014 at 22:49 |
Bands listed and not listed in the PA database but have similar roots, backgrounds and importance in the history of rock music. Which one do you prefer?

The Doors. While both had significant songs, The Doors were generally better (though not a great live band, Jim was way too inconsistent for that).
The thing that always made me laugh was that first Velvet's record. There is the apochryphal story that of the 20 people who bought and heard that record all went and formed bands. That may be quite true. But why? Simple reasoning goes - if a band can record a record that sounds as dreadful as the VU debut then how much better can even "we" sound.
VU might have had Cale but The Doors' musicianship was just that bit exceptionally fine. I suppose Jim versus Lou is the real competition. Me, I like a good compilation from VU but everything from The Doors. Well, the studio albums are essential. Sound good too...

I really only listen to two albums by both bands so I guess it's s/t vs White Light/White Heat, right now I'm going with White Light/White Heat

VU wasn't a band. It was an event.

Velvet Underground. I can stand The Doors, but they don't make me go bananas.

The Doors. Their debut work just stands out like a peak, but The Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman are also not too shabby. That beats anything I've heard from VU.

VU. I've never been able to get into the Doors, and I didn't write that just to make a pun.

The Doors, without hesitation. I always found Velvet Underground extremely overrated and Lou Reed one of the worst singers in all of creation.
