During the last year I have noticed lots of videos, channels, etc on YT and elsewhere where the authors explain in pure plain English words and understandable for non-Russians terms lots of things concerning the former USSR, Russia, East Slavs.

I think this site, this forum deserves such a topic.

The Soviet Movies Explained:

Favourite Band: Gentle Giant

Favourite Horror Writer: Jean Ray
Favourite Computer Game: Tiny Toon - Buster's Hidden Treasure (Sega Mega Drive/Genesis)

Hi,

As many foreign films I have reviewed and seen, making sense of their individual thing is kinda crazy for me ... they all have their weird bits and pieces, and they all have their great stuff ... but some things tend to shine a bit more than others, although I imagine that the more artsy material out of Russia is not quite the public's taste for movies at all (see ... America and Hollywood!) ... but it's hard for me to fail so see a Michalkov or a Tarkovsky ...

In most cases though, seeing different things are OK with me ... Thief, 12 and a few other films also stand out. But there are times when I'm not sure these "represent" Russia as well or as strong as they would like to, probably because of censorship in that country which is still a force and then some! The stuff has to be kept to "history" and written as such, to make 100 years ago wrong, and today right!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
