I can't seem to find this topic/list done as a thread on PA before so, here it is.

List for me your favorite Ozric Tentacles albums or songs--even their live albums, please!

I'm a lover of their sound but I can barely differentiate one song or album from another because there is such a consistency of sound. Only recently have I really tried to get down to the meat of their discography--really getting to know each album. So far I'd have to rank my faves in this order:

1. Jurassic Shift
2. Technicians of the Sacred (I really, really like this album!)
3. Erpland
4. Curious Corn
5. The Hidden Step

the rest, for me, fall below the level achieved by these five though they all remain enjoyable and listenable, but I've only really listened to:

Pungent Effulgent
Arborescence
Spirals in Hyperspace
The YumYum Tree

which means I still have a lot of work to do.

Your lists might guide as to where to go next.

Hmm..
Pungent Effulgent, Erpland, Jurassic shift, Strangetude, and all the early stuff on Vitamin enhanced box-set. Not in any order, love all equally. Also really rate Curious corn and Become the Other.

Of live lps, Spice Doubt (which is a live concert in a recording studio) is my go to Ozrics lp if i cant decide what to put on. I dont think there is an lp i 'dont like' but there's a couple or the more recent ones i havent bothered to listen to.

I really enjoyed Ed's solo lp 'Shimmer into nature' and REALLY like the Nodens Ictus lps (Ed and Gre Vanderloo) particularly the TRUELY lovely live Kozfest 2018 double cd (i was there!)

Ive seen Ozrics live loads of times over nearly 40 years including one of their first gigs at Stonehenge and they were always a great experience.. but the last few times in the last 10 years, they were very loud for the venues, very 'dance-mix' orientated with lots of painful top end and sub-sonic bass; could be just my ears are getting shot but the last time it was just too much and all the subtleties and atmospherics of their sound was completely lost. Seeing them in December with a 'full band' (with Gong) set so hoping it will be a bit easier on the ear (and head)

I know six of their albums and they're all good, very hard to rank. I like the band a lot but I'm never so sure whether I need more of their music than I already have, as I honestly have a hard time to tell one album from another (for example when something comes up in random songs mode, I can hardly ever say which album this is from, let alone track names).

Maybe something like this:
Erpland
Pungent Effulgent
Jurassic Shift
Strangeitude
Live at the Pongmasters Ball
Erpsongs

Interesting, Mira! I didn't think I'd ever see a list that didn't contain Jurassic Shift. Are you willing to say why you dislike JS ?

I don't dislike it; it'd probably take up spot 11 or 12 on this list. It's been a while since I last heard it, but I remember listening to it several times when I was just getting into the band and it always felt like a relative step down in terms of catchiness, variedness and energy compared to the amazing trio of albums that preceded it.

Hi,

STRANGEITUDE
ERPLAND

Not a whole lot after that. The stuff with Zia is not as adventurous (missing John badly) and then later the stuff with Brandi is just not as good, specially when considering her studies and in the end, it was all too conventional and not adventurous at all. It was too much supporting him, instead of challenging Ed in what he does.

Song wise? I always seem to go back to one piece in Strangeitude ... "Space Between Your Ears" and "Live Throbbe".

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
