This is a part 2 (a different set) to a list I made before where I chose one track included in PA's database for every five year period from 1965 until 2023. So, I chose one from 1969 for 1965 to 1969, one from 1971 for 1970 to 1974, one from 1979 for 1975 to 1979, one from 1982 for 1980 to 1984 etc.

For this, like the other similar recent topics, I just went with my gut for whatever interests me at this moment. That said, i did want to limit the length of songs since some might want to check out music. As I made topics and playlists where I listed many of my favourite tracks over the years, these were easy to put together.

Please vote for up to three of these, or for more if you dislike such limitations, and feel free to vote despite limited familiarity.

Kevin Ayers "Lady Rachel" (Joy of a Toy, 1969)
John Cale & Terry Riley "Church of Anthrax" (Church of Anthrax, 1971)
David Bowie "Move On" (Lodger, 1979)
Kate Bush "Night of the Swallow" (The Dreaming, 1982)
Thinking Plague "Lycanthrope" (In This Life, 1989)
Dead Can Dance "The Carnival Is Over" (Into the Labyrinth, 1993Cardiacs "Dirty Boy" (Sing to God, 1996)
Secret Chiefs 3 "Blaze of the Grail" (Book M, 2001)
Coil "Fire of the Mind" (The Age of Naples, 2005)
Kayo Dot "Calonyction Girl" (Coyote, 2010)
Anna von Hausswolff "Discovery" (The Miraculous, 2015)
Magick Brother & Mystic Sister "Les Vampires" (s/t, 2020)

Here is a playlist with these tracks:

No way can I not vote for Kate Bush and Cardiacs, and this leaves just one vote for something else, although there's lots of good stuff here. Secret Chiefs 3 is my choice. (Yeah I see you write "for more if you want" but I don't as I hate agonising about where to draw the line.)

These songs are so not my thing, even the Bowie song is rather "meh".

^ One thing I like about seeing personal list and replies to them involves getting to know the breadth of each other's tastes a little better. Helps when making recommendations, and for me it makes me feel a little closer to people since the music we appreciate is such a part of our identity, and for me so very deeply personal.

I'm of the same m!nd.

From a list where I of course like all and would vote for all I will go with four:

Coil "Fire of the Mind"
Secret Chiefs 3 "Blaze of the Grail"
Kayo Dot "Calonyction Girl"
Kevin Ayers "Lady Rachel"

"Dirty Boy" has got so much love from me in other polls mostly by me, as had Anna von H. I do consider "Dirty Boy" to be one of the greatest rock songs. And I think that Bush albums is so excellent, and that song from it is one of my very favourite songs (2 stars? humph - lol).

It's rather interesting to me with Kayo Dot... It used to be one of the really talked about bands here, and Toby Driver was the "It" boy here at one time. Well, along with Steven Wilson. In fact, it split into factions a bit with being on the Driver or the Wilson side (of course many liked both). I recent years a Toby Driver release has not met with the same excitement or anticipation and the older stuff is not nearly so talked about. The most recent Kayo Dot album in my collection is Coffins on Io from 2014. I think the later ones are not as respected generally.

Hmm, this is a bit victim of my "automatic" votes: I'm a big fan of Ayers' first five albums so this is one. Then, Church of Anthrax is such an emblematic and singular piece of music... that's two. And from the remaining tracks it could be between Secret Chiefs 3 and Anna von Hausswolff; I'll go with the latter.

^ Nice. I might well have chosen the very same as primo choices of my choices. I find "Church of Anthrax" to be electrifying.
