When asked about Chris Squire once, Rick Wakeman said he was "rather musically limited."
I suppose so, in that Squire likely didn't have the extent of formal musical training that Wakeman had! Squire was a school choirboy and likely had a smattering of training on keyboards, but he was self-taught on bass guitar as I remember reading. Even though he may not have been as competent as Rick in music theory, he was a genius in his innovation on the instrument!!

Thank you for the reminder - it's been a LONG time since I've listened to that album, as I really don't enjoy John Payne's vocals.

It's one of my favorites from Asia. ![]() Payne's vocals are often dissed because they're constantly compared to Wetton's ![]() I actually prefer Asia with Payne than what Wetton was doing solo. My favorite Wetton album is his collaboration with Phil Manzanera. That's a fun album IMO.

The Yes guys are no different from other bands. They're will always be disagreements and seeing matters differently. I've only disliked Steve Howe more lately for pulling Tony Banks domination tricks with the band, and keeping Jon out (just like Shaw and Young in Styx did to Dennis DeYoung, and Neal Schon did to Steve Perry). Bruford and Wakeman both have a great sense of humor, along with Jon. Bruford left Yes for quality reasons as a musician (to take on bigger challenges for musical growth, rather than sit around comfortably in the background). When he came back for Union, it was a regression for him, even though he did agree to participate. I appreciate his honesty and openness. It's never been disrespect or a slap at the band. He's spoken for himself and his position with the band.

Is Steve allowed to have any loyalty towards Jon Davison I wonder? Clearly the newer Jon would have to be chucked out if old Jon came back. Would that be fair? Although perhaps not that relevant, I absolutely enjoy Glass Hammer (with or without Davison) more than anything Yes have done since Drama personally. Yes just became a behemoth that was good for touring but not for new music (they were about as 'done' by Drama, or 90125 at a stretch, as any major prog band). Maybe the live shows would be better with Anderson but I can remember seeing Yes back in about 2005 for the last time and it was 'dead' even by that time and it still had Anderson involved. Then I saw Anderson and Wakeman play live and god that was so boring it was ridiculous. IMO.
