Itheist are a British blackened death metal band from Plymouth, currently unsigned and active since 2018. The band was started by Carcinoma's Dan Couch (guitars/bass/drums) and former Warcrab member Kane Nelson (vocals), transforming into a studio-only project in the wake of the first lineup's dissolution. In its prior incarnation, Itheist existed as Aetherium Mors for fourteen years beginning in 2004, releasing an EP, a split and the 2012 full-length Drenched in Victorious Blood, signing to Eihwaz Recordings sometime before their name change. Itheist kept their pro-Lucifer and anti-Christian lyrical themes but dropped their Gothenburg-friendly melodeath sound in favour of a proggy, aggressive black/death hybrid influenced by Carcass, Emperor, Portal and Ulcerate.

As Eihwaz was now on hiatus, Itheist chose to self-release their eponymous debut in 2019, which was produced by Horrendous' Damian Herring, critically compared to Akercocke, Deathspell Omega and Dissection. Its Manuel Tinnemans-drawn cover artwork depicts, in Itheist's words, "a horde of demons entering a Heavenly throne room, tearing through celestial beings in an orgy of violent destruction." The following year, the band digitally reissued a remixed and remastered version of Aetherium Mors' EP, Entrails of the Soul, under the Itheist banner.
