I searched the forum for anything about this new project - which releases its debut album 'Gentō' via Ear Music on 22nd August - and apart from the featuring of the first single 'Kaleidoscope' towards the end of Steve Lazenby's 'Lazland on Progzilla Radio Episode 34' on the last day of May this year, I found nothing.

I know the project isn't included on PA at the moment, so I shouldn't really be posting about it in this section of the forum, but the 'Get The Word Out' section doesn't receive anywhere near the same amount of traffic, and Steve Rothery (solo) is already here in Neo Prog, and Thorsten Quaeschning is here in partnership with his former Tangerine Dream bandmate Ulrich Schnauss in Progressive Electronic, so I hope that makes it OK.

Gentō is named after the Japanese term for "magic lantern", and the album is described by the duo as "a mesmerising journey through a cinematic landscape of sounds and textures and each of the five tracks takes its inspiration from men's endearing fascination with the moving image". Steve Rothery's trademark soaring guitar solos are combined with Thorsten Quaeschning's hypnotic 'Berlin School' style sequencer-driven passages.

1. Vanishing Point (Pt. 1, 2 & 3) (20:00)
2. Gentō (7:40)
3. Kinetoscope (Pt. 1 & 2) (12:45)
4. Bioscope (Pt. 1, 2 & 3) (13:02)
5. Kaleidoscope (4:55)

Or broken down into its individual parts:

1. Vanishing Point (20:00)
- a. Part I (3:57)
- b. Part II (5:28)
- c. Part III (10:35)
2. Gentō (7:40)
3. Kinetoscope (12:45)
- a. Part I (7:30)
- b. Part II (5:15)
4. Bioscope (13:02)
- a. Part I (6:11)
- b. Part II (2:47)
- c. Part III (4:04)
5. Kaleidoscope (4:55)

Total Time 58:22

The project apparently began back in early 2020, and after a number of five-day trips to Berlin over the years, followed by a few days in Steve Rothery's home studio, the album was finally ready to be mixed and mastered. As well as Steve Rothery & Thorsten Quaeschning, the debut Bioscope album also features Elbow drummer Alex Reeves.

'Gentō' is available to pre-order in retail stores as a CD+Blu-ray digipak, including the full album in high-res, Dolby Atmos as well as Dolby 5.1 Surround Mix, and also as a heavyweight, black gatefold double vinyl LP, as well as the usual digital audio.

The band are already lining up live dates across Europe - in Germany, the Netherlands and Poland at the moment - with some UK dates also being looked at for early 2026. Thus far, Bioscope will play:

Dec 10: NED Zoetermeer De Boerderij
Dec 11: NED Hengelo Metropol
Dec 13: GER Oberhausen Turbinenhalle
Dec 14: GER Berlin Astra
Dec 16: POL Warsaw, Progresja

The second single, being the title track, was released on Friday last week.

Not sure which sub genre this is going to end up in, but the project will obviously need to find a home here somewhere.

Edit: Added track timings from Amazon.
