Yes I am a particular aficionado of their debut- by far the best indie album of the '80s, as it successfully reinvented 60s psychedelia for a new generation.

However, their later work such as 'Second Coming' was a curate's egg- the music was great; heavy blues rock with terrific guitar, yet Brown's weedy vocals sounded horribly incongruous amongst such heaviosity. I've had no desire to check out Brown's solo work as the reviews have generally been pretty negative and of the 'not as good as The Stone Roses' variety..

I think they are ok. Ian Brown is an appaling singer though. I have heard few singers who are so out of tune both live and in the studio. Brown was lucky to be working with John Squire, who is a great guitarist.

Their debut album has some great songs on it. 'I am the Ressurection' is my favourite, I also like 'She bangs the Drums' and 'Made of Stone'

The 'Second Coming' was actually a better quality album, in terms of musicianship and production, but the masses had lost interest in them and had moved on by then. It was also more of a rock and blues album and they seemed keen to try and ripp off Zeppelin and discard their Indie robes. It was not what their fans wanted. Their fans hated 'rock music'

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Sorry, pal but no matter how hard he tries, Ian Brown ends up sounding flat.

It's not an opinion it's FACT. Unless one is tone deaf.

That's that.

I have their debut album and it was great. It had very appropiate guitar textures and it sounded pretty good.
