The Black Mages are a band that covers the compositions Nobuo Uematsu
wrote for the Final Fantasy games in prog-metal style. Nobuo
himself did all of the arrangements and keyboards for this band, and
yes, they have performed live.
The Black Mages - Dancing Mad The several-minute-long organ solo, the freakishly ELP-meets-Crimson-like breakdown afterwards, culminating into a guitar solo of the most erotic proportions... it's enough to make any prog-metal fan smile. ...and did I mention that as a teenager, Nobuo played in an ELP cover band, over covering Emerson's parts at a much faster tempo than Keith played them, yet with extreme accuracy? |

Game Music Online.
(I tried linking directly to it, but all I got was a link to an "Invalid Prefix" error.) Edited by fractal |

You can also get The Black Mages' two albums through iTunes, believe it or not.

If you want your rights preserved, don't use iTunes (A guide to DRM plagued music).

Excellently done.
I'd suggest putting them in symphonic prog metal, however... it's basically prog-metal renditions of tracks originally composed for symphony. ![]() |

I don't have iTunes and I'd prefer to get their albums on CD... surprising that you can get them on iTunes though... |

Me and my friend have always agreed that the Black Mages are prog... I just couldn't be bothered to say it on here. But Black Mages in the archives would be good. |
