Any other people besides me who really like Split Enz? It's one of the few bands I like that are on the same level as the best prog giants. I discovered them back in 1989, and since then I listened to them a lot!
Split Enz had the brothers Finn in it, well known from Crowded House, but the band had many more great musicians, for instance the fantastic keyboard player Eddie Rayner.
The first period (Second Thoughts / Mental Notes, high point 1975 / 1976) is very much prog related, later on they became a very good, innovating song writing band, always with an ear for unusual arrangements (high point 1981 / 1982).
My favourite albums:
- Second Thoughts (a rework from their debut Mental Notes, 1976)
- Time And Tide (1982)
- Corroboree (1981)
My favourite songs:
- Stranger Than Fiction / Time For A Change (closest they ever came to an epic, on Second Thoughts)
- Pioneer (great instrumental from Eddie Rayner, on Time and Tide)
- Albert Of India (ditto, on Corroboree)
