I sure wish there were more bands that played the Rickenbacker bass. I really love that fat bass sound like on Yes, Rush, Cathedral and Anglagard.
Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

Iv'e heard Proto Kaw (& Mars Volta) they are good suggestions. I am trying to get K2 & Strangefish to see what they are like.

K2 is very much in the Genesis category though they have more than just a symphonic sound. Strangefish is a great new band. Very prog rockish with nice guitar work.  A great Yes-like band with great musicality is Syzygy. They are superb!

I have K2. They are good but not really Yes-like. You are right in saying they're more similar to Genesis.

There seem to be WAY more modern bands playing in a Genesis style than Yes which is a shame I think though I really like Genesis too. I guess Marillion started all that

Try Mind Sky and their excellent debut Timewise.

Mind Sky eh? Are they like Genesis? I hear the singer is Gabriel-esque.  There are many modern bands similar to Genesis. Besides the main neo-prog groups like Marillion, there is also Citizen Cain, The Watch, K2, Ad infinitum, Puppet Show and Fyreworks. Just to name some of the obscure ones (relatively so).

Hmm, I have the impression that Hamadryad is Camel-like but since I haven't really heard them, I will take your word for it and look into them. thanks!  Yah, Ring of Myth. I have thier first album and it kinda sucks. They are like Yes for sure but maybe a bit more like Rush. The guitars are heavy and they are a trio. I don't know what their new album sounds like though...

Thanks! good suggestion. I have "Sacred Baboon" and it's very good. A bit of a Gentle Giant vibe as well as Yes. Cathedral from USA is also awesome and have a Yes/Anglagard sound.

THE MARS VOLTA!
My avatar is the vocalist of glam rock/brit pop band Suede (aka the London Suede in USA). They were once good before the guitarist left the band. Albums to hear: self titled debut and 'Dog Man Star.'

Yup! Great band. I like them alot. Strangefish is another very good new band similar to Moon Safari.

I like both but how can you say Strangefish is similar to Moon Safari???

Strangefish is crunchy, guitar driven symphonic prog, very similar to Magic Pie if you ask me.
