I voted Levitation, its their best technically. Its the best produced and they were at their most professional, with a reluctant Ginger baker on the drums and great performances from Huw Lloyd Langton.

I also love 'Hall of the mountain grill' for its atmosphere, and of course the classic 'Psychedelic warlords dissapear in smoke' I also liked 'Astounding Sounds, Amazing music' which was slated by many fans as being a sell out. I thought it was excellent quality, thoughtfull music and showed HW moving towards taking production and musicianship more seriously, although this was difficult with Simon King on Drums and Nik Turner being allowed anywhere near a vocal mike.

They're a great band, with a great history. Descrobed by Tommy Vance as British institution! Good even when they're crap

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I voted 'Warrior on the Edge of Time'. It's impossible to just name one fav. They made too many great albums. And some sh*tty ones as well.

Both with a band with a big record catalogue and Progarchive's polling system which allows for what 20+ choices, why aren't we given the breadth of choice? This poll with limited choice reflects a considerable bias. My favourite and in fact the only album I cared for by Hawkwind, is The Night Of The Hawk - title track was a mighty fine single. Where's the tick box for that???????????????? Angry

I think the limited number of choices is well reflected by the number of votes cast! LOL

My all time fave Hawkwind album is 'Warrior...', but I admit that 'Space Ritual' and 'Doremi...' (why not listed here?) are more representative of Hawkwind's raw / heavy rock drive. 'Hall' and 'Warrior' belong to a specific era of the band's career, an era of sophistication and certain exquisiteness (lots of mellotron and violin parts, which take the psyh thing closer to prog standards, while not losing its freaking edge).

I remember buying the debut Hawkwind album on vinyl. it was so good I scored a few extra grooves on it with a screwdriver so it would go straight to the middle and eject! Hawkwind must be the most inconsistent band on the planet, able to inspire and irritate often in the same track. Very sloppy I think.

Ginger Baker even wanted to call the band Ginger Baker's Hawkwind but Brock said F*** you and that was the end of that Hawkwind incarnation.

Ithink Edge Of Time Was th most "prog" Hawkwind album.

Church Of Hawkwind is almost a Dave Brock Solo album to me neverthess it is one of my faves. But captain Lockheed was a Bob Calvert solo album. He was originally from South Africa and it was his childhood dream to become a fighter pilot.

Yes Vibe, I've got all the Bob Calvert solo stuff, including the v. collectable original CL&TSF vinyl on UA with gatefold cover and lyric insert. Though officially a solo album it has everything that's great about Hawkwind, and in spades. It is every bit as much a Hawkwind album as "Church.." is, which as you so rightly point out, is pretty much a Brock fest.
