These are guaranteed to give me the vertical hairfactor: 1.The break in Journey To The Center Of The Mind by the Amboy Dukes and the sustained note held during that. 2.The solo Keith Emerson does in 'Mars The Bringer Of War' off of Emerson Lake and Powell. 3.The hyperspeed strumming done by Hacket on 'Dancing Out With The Moonlit Knight' off of Selling England. 4.The opening guitar work to Bridge Of Sighs by Robin Trower. |

I'm listening to it RIGHT now! And yes, fantastic. Incidentally, I bought Red yesterday and heard Starless for the very first time... That magical transition around 11.20 makes me literally gasp for breath. I'm so happy that this song turned out to be just as fabulous as all the raving suggested it to be. One of the very few prog songs that I have loved right from the get-go. |

YES YES YES!!!! I've been in love with this song lately, the part that always gets me is 'The Silent watcher he makes me uneasy, i can feel him through the floorboards and his presence is creepy, he informs me, that i shall be expelled." Absolutely mindblowing..!!!!!!! |

wow, one stands out
the rapid transition in The Ancient from Howe's wicked soloing to Anderson's chatting and Howe's beautiful acoustic playing. 'So the flowering creativity of life wove its Web face to face with the shallow And their Gods sought out and conquered ... Ah Kin' that definity is a 'hair raiser' to me. ![]() |

First: A great thread! All what I think about passages, which make stand my hair are allready mentioned, which I won't repeat 'cause it's already written, but there are few more: The last two minutes of "Three Friends" from GENTLE GIANT - the band choir and the mellotron melodies repeats through the fadeout and always gives me chills, any time I listen to it. The beginning section, flute solo and chorus of "I Remember" from PSYCHOTIC WALTZ. Most parts of "Us And Them" by FLOYD. The whole "The Lamia" and "Cinema Show/Aisle Of Plenty" from GENESIS. The acoustic guitar intro, lead guitar, verses and chorus of "Guardian" from FATES WARNING. "A Change Of Seasons" from DREAM THEATER - the part which breaks in after over 13 minutes. The passage of "Epitaph" by KING CRIMSON, where Greg Lake sings "But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying." "I Grieve" from PETER GABRIEL. "Russia On Ice" with it's dark mood - PORCUPINE TREE |

The guitar chords, accompanied by temple blocks in "Xanadu" - Rush 5. The bass line in "Garden Party" - Marillion 6. Apocalypse in 9/8 from "Supper's Ready" - Genesis 7. The opening chords in "Perpetual Change" - Yes 8. The resolved melody near the end of "Stagnation" (revisited in 3 Sides Live medley) - Genesis 9. The solo in "Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd 10. Guitar and temple blocks again in "The Trees" - Rush |

Nothing's made my hair stand on end, but I like these very, very much, that should count for something. It does, doesn't it? -The part in "The Musical Box" right before he begins the "play me my song" bit for the second time (I trust you know what I'm talking about) -the sax solo in VDGG's "Man-Erg" -the climactic part in "Kosmos Tours" from "Plague of the Lighthouse Keepers" -The "Master inner voices" part in GG's "Experience -The mellotron/haunting acoustic guitar part in Harmonium's "Depuis L'Automne" -Soon -The beginning passage of A Passion Play (after the intro) -The flute at the beginning of "Apocolypse in 9/8" (and the rest of it for that matter) -The whole of "In the Wake of Poseidon" -When the middle section is interrupted in "On Reflection with "Look back i's not your game, together just in name" -The haunting part in "Schooldays" - "Presence of the Night" from "Plague of etc." -When the quiet organ comes in in "Picures/Lighthouse" -The whole of "Lemmings" -Everything on ITCOTCK (minus a few things) Amongst others Edited by MustShaveBeard |

Prog wouldn't be prog if it didn't have too many such passages to even BEGIN mentioning. It would be mind blowing to try and single anything out... Instead, I'll just add to all that was already written in this thread with something noone mention yet, which is; The final acoustic part of The Drapery Falls, by Opeth, beginning with: ''Spiralling to the ground below...'' |
