A new sub-forum sounds like a great idea to me, as well as a dedicated team for the assessment of up-and-coming bands. There are lots of people who would like to become more active on the site, and this would give them a chance to contribute more than by just reviewing albums. Moreover, people who, like Eric or others, play in bands themselves may have more knowledge of interesting realities in the prog field.

One thing I know, from my frequentation of Italian prog sites, is that many bands release demos which are then reviewed. A demo is usually shorter than an album, but more complete than three or four samples. I don't think it is a viable option to start taking on board bands that don't have at least a self-produced demo to their credit.

Demos and/or samples should be "reviewed" in the thread body dedicated to the new band. No need to go to the homepage until the day the band releases an album and could be finally added here. Smile

Now we are on to something. If there is a demo, then promoting the band becomes much more viable. That offers something that can help the band get more gigs, and (hopefully) eventually signed.

Well, let's start with my band, we have a demo !

You can hear 6 of our 12 originals there, which we recorded for our demo, complete with sleeve, lyrics and all...

Since it's my band, I can't review it, but who would like to ?

I'd definitely write a review of your band Eric, I just would like to know if this thread idea is a done deal first.

I said I wanted to help (albeit a few days a go - I've been gone) and if it is okay I'll write a review on Eric's demo. In order to give another perspective on it.

And I have a short paragraph review on the demo heard from the website (not the myspace) Eric posted.

Is anything going on here about this that us non-collaborators(i.e. us poor senior members) don't know about?

Just a question. How would you include an artist who hasn't got a promo out? Nowadays the Archive is based upon cd/vinyl releases, but if an artist only has mp3files available HOW exactly could those be added to the database. SUrely we cannot add them song per song?

Just curious Smile

^^^  Wouldn't it be added under the Singles/EP/Fan Club/Promo category?

Yeah, but still... it's no coherent release, if you get my point...

For the record: adding artists that have physical (demo)cd's released is of course not that big of a problem Smile

If a band has no releases, the MP3s can be reviewed in their own thread.
