Could someone break this sub-genre up.  Apart from the bands having a geographical connection to each other, their music is very different.  In musical terms, Soft Machine is nothing like Caravan, Hatfield and the North isn't like Rock Bottom.  It would be better to put these bands into the musical sub-genres that they fit.  It wouldn't make a lot of sense to group other bands by area that they formed in.
