You could do something in either of these forums:

Er...it'd be....official...

If it's a waste of then I'll happily abandon the idea, 'twas merely a suggestion for something to keep us occupied...

This isnt much different than the plethora of prog polls we've had where members are invited to vote on their favourite track on a particular album is it?

Is anyone at all interested in this idea or do you think it's a waste of effort?

In my time at myspace's classic rock forums, years ago, where I began to veer towards prog, there was a fellow who went by the name of Donny who had this idea called R.A.A.S. (Ranking An Album's Songs). This is the process:

  • A volunteer, in the forum, posts a new topic with release information, maybe a short blurb about the album (or perhaps even a review or two about it), artwork, and (most importantly) song tracks of any particular album of his/her choice.
  • All the members of the forum who wish to participate then rank the album's songs. For example:

FOXTROT:

1. Supper's Ready
2. Can-Utility and the Coastliners
3. Watcher of the Skies
4. Horizons
5. Time Table
6. Get 'Em Out by Friday

  • Then, after an earlier specified time (one or two weeks), the host of this particular edition of RAAS tallies all the votes, and then posts the results. After that, the next person on the list of volunteers prepares his or her post for his or her selected album. It continues...
I realize there are a few downsides to doing this on a prog rock website - a lot of albums contain few songs (for example, R.A.A.S. would not work for Mike Oldfield's Amarok, and would be very boring for Thick as a Brick), however, if the host or hostess chooses the album wisely, I think this can be a fun little distraction for us. What do you all think of this idea?

If everyone's happy with this idea, then it would be great if we could arrange it with a collab to lock the thread once the results have been posted in the thread. Maybe stickying the thread while it is active would be another useful tactic. Any other suggestions would be great, and I'll be happy to host the first edition of RAAS in the prog lounge.
