Shame on all of you - there seems to be an inability to think of great albums before 1966, in other words what about the other 6/10th of that decade? Dylan had a few seminal ones I'm told. Looking through my collection I would nominate The Shadows released in 1961, seminal in its own way and influential on many a British guitarist to come later. And I would say the 1963 recording released the following year, Dave Brubeck Quartet At Carnegie Hall, had it fans amongst the late 60's prog/underground musicians.

To be Perfectly Honest I could just fill this with Dylan releases, but that wouldn't be fair to my other favorite artists and albums at the time. So here it is:
2. Velvet Underground & Nico 1. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited 3. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme 5. Miles Davis - In a Silent Way 10. Otis Redding - Dictionary of Soul 6. Donovan - Wear Your Love Like Heaven 7. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 4. Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love 9. Ravi Shankar - Improvisations 8. Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere Those that missed the cut ![]() King Crimson - ITCOTCK Muddy Waters - Folk Singer Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn Tim Buckley - Happy Sad Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica John Mayall and the Blues Breakers Featuring Eric Clapton The Byrds - Younger Than Yesterday, Notorious Byrd Brothers Procol Harum - 1st, self-titled Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac Fairport Convention - Leige & Leif |
