I totally agree with you on Marillion by the way. I was into them before they even got a record deal, their debut cassette just blew me away. I saw them at Manchester Gallery, a really small venue, and felt I was in at the beginning of something really special. Script was very good, but I preferred the earlier versions of all the songs. Interesting this because somewhere deep hidden in my memory I know something like this too. The very first beginning of Marillion was earth shocking revolutionary. I remember Fish with a painted face doing Forgotten Sons, Incubus, Assassing and Market Square Heroes. I was overwhelmed seeing this. And it was so impressive because I (and probably you too) were already (or better:still) proggers and needed this so badly. I went to a famous dutch venue (Ahoy Rotterdam) in 1985 with my cousin who was (and still is) already a huge Marillion fan back then. The place was sold out (10.000 spectators) and Marillion was a sensation, they did the whole Misplaced Childhood album live and the hall was enchanted. It is my warmest memory of the band but not too long after that it was all over. My cousin was more loyal ...

Good list my friend and very interesting you do one album for each artist/band. I did not and so mine is full of Satellite, Collage, Pendragon, Jadis and Clepsydra. Yours is more interesting to be honest.

Dear Henk, I included only one because I thought it was more importante
to tell what I think are the best of each artist. The list would
be far too long if I had to include all the great albums all those guys
did. YOurs too is very good, because tell about other albums I do
consider almost as important as the ones I mentioned. Not
Of this World is very close to The masquerade Overture quality
wise. Clutching At Straws is almost as good as Script and so on.
But those 15 I mentioned are the ones I'd take to an island, as they
say. They are my fave and all of them have a special place in prog's
history and in my heart.
Good idea this list.
Best regards for all who are writing.

I could easily do a top 100, except for the exact order, that's impossible... The list here is except the first 2 albums quite random.
1. Collage - Moonshine ---one of the best albums I know, for sure in my top 10 of all time 2. Marillion - Marbles --- the rebirth of Marillion after a long "dry" period...and re-awakening my love for this band... 3. Arena - The Visitor 4. Pallas - The Dreams of Men 5. Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear 6. Arena - Songs from the Lion's Cage 7. Satellite - Into The Night 8. Clepsydra - More Grains of Sand 9. Pendragon - Pure 10. IQ - Subterranea 11. Marillion - Seasons End 12. Sylvan - Posthumous Silence 13. Pendragon - The Window of Life 14. Satellite - Evening Games 15. Saens - Escaping from the Hand of God 16. Marillion - Misplaced Childhood 17. Arena - Contagion 18. Sylvan - Artificial Paradise 19. Clepsydra - Alone 20. Pendragon - Not of this World 21. Pendragon - The World 22. Marillion - Afraid of Sunrise 23. IQ - Ever 24. Pendragon - The Masquerade Overture 25. Knight Area - Under a new Sign
I'm sure I am forgetting a lot here...Aragon - Rocking Horse, Triangle - Square the Circle...and many more...

Nice one Rob! There is nothing like a bit of name dropping!! SW's exclusive airing of his new material for us was pretty impressive too. If I recall, it was his "Peace of Earth and Goodswill to All Pigs" he had just completed, some parts of which I'm sure I detect in earlier PT stuff.
That cassette was indeed superb, Alaska were another band that really should have made it, like the aforementioned As Above So Below
