They are not in top 2000 for sure so I'm not the only Dutchman who's ignorant. But as a progger I should be ashamed, I have to admit.
I'll check them out one day.

Some interesting facts: Stones are in 37 times (vs Beatles 55). Abba appears to be 3rd with 24.
Queen is there with 20 songs, U2 delivers 16 songs and Bowie 14.

Of course there are lots of obligatory popular pieces of garbage on this list (with the late Hazes popping up at #70 for the first time).
A pleasant experience was seeing one of the most proggy songs made by a non-prog artist on #51: 'Halo of Flies' by Alice Cooper.

You're probably a Dutchman, knowing all these things. Good to have you as a back up if someone asks questions and I'm not watching all the time ... LOL

Ok everyone. This is the Dutch top 2000 edition 2008. This is the most popular all-time list in our country. Mind you, this is not some proglist but it's about all music ever that has at least something to do with popmusic (so non-classical more or less). In this list where millions of Dutch musiclovers vote for are a lot of progressive or progressive related songs (incl proto-prog).

I skipped all the other songs because there are many Dutch songs in there nobody (some of them not even me) on this site will know. And of course I also deleted all common pop music, soul and R&B etc.

The only criterion I took for the songs that remain is that they are on an album on progarchives. So this is not a list of prog songs. If you want to discover those look for the bold lines. Those are the songs most of us will see as more or less progressive. The others in this list are by bands that are on this site but are actually popsongs.

I cheated a bit because I let slip a few songs by Jimi Hendrix because there are signs he will probably be on PA shortly. If not, too bad, my mistake.

Please comment on the list, what do you think of the taste of Dutch popfans ?

And what songs in the list do you like, love or appreciate or maybe hate ?

Whatever you want. Have fun.
