Senseless Death

I hadn't planned on being there. Normally I wear civilian clothing. My present duty assignment is in background investigations for department employment. I was in uniform that day because we hired a new employee. My supervisor ordered me to attend. You have no clue how hard it is to stand so close to someone who hurt one of your own, and remain passive. Self control, self control, self control....

BTW, Danbo, re the title of this thread, I know that you were dealing with shock and anger when you wrote it, but I can't agree that the death of a policeman in the line of duty (that duty being to "serve and protect" the rest of us from the bad guys) is "senseless." Your slain fellow officer died as a soldier in the age-old battle of civilization against the barbarians. Every now and then, a good guy falls (every police officer knows that, and deals with it each day), but another of the brave free men or women steps in to take his/her place. Your fellow officer died serving a very good and honorable cause -- a true hero. His death was anything but senseless.

Well done, good guys, and chin up, my friend! I'll be thinking about you, teaching my children to know right from wrong, and to respect the brave men and women who fight -- and sometimes die -- to keep us free.

AMEN ,GET THE BASTARD

As well as the recent death of my sister,i have also had to deal with the suicide of a close freind WHY DID HE DO IT?? MY first reaction was odd..I was angry at him.. WHAT RIGHT DID HE HAVE TO DO THAT TO HIMSELF AND TO US...WHAT THE F**CK WAS THAT FOR!! HOW POINTLESS,HOW STUPID...........I GREIVE

This topic reminds me of a song off Dave Gilmour's solo album "About Face". It is simply titled "Murder". It expresses his anger towards this pointless way for people to die. At one time he was confined to his house in England because someone had threatened his life. I think that this and the murder of John Lennon inspired this powerful song. Great album, by the way. Too bad it's not included in the archives because I would definitely review that one.

Danbo, my sincere condolences.  Especially to the man's family.

Police officers are often unappreciated and even reviled at the same time they are cleaning up the physical and spiritual messes left behind by the evil and the uncaring.

I have several friends in law enforcement and I do worry about them in the world the way it is.  Unfortunately the world seems from my seat to be increasingly sliding into barbarism.
