Top 5 PA discoveries

1. The Mars Volta - Deloused In the Comatorium
Heard a lot of their later material on XM Channel 51 (R.I.P ), but was only mildly impressed.  Saw all the glowing reviews on this site so decided to check it out and wow!  Now one of my favourite albums. 

2. Early Porcupine Tree
One of the first prog bands I got into, but only new their material from Stupid Dream onwards.  One day, when checking out what others thought of these albums I came across The Sky Moves Sideways.  And as an Pink Floyd & Ozric Tentacles fan, TSMS quickly became one of my favs. 

3. Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Was familiar with and quite fond of Aqualung, Songs from the Wood, and their other more traditional albums.  When I joined PA, TAAB was number one on the album charts so I figured I just had to check it out.  Easily my favourite JT album now. 

4. Talk Talk
Knew them only as the band No Doubt covered for their hit "It's My Life".  At first, I was surprised to see them listed on the archives, but then I checked out Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.  Now one of my top bands.  (still have a soft spot for their old stuff, though )

5. King Crimson - Discipline
Hooked on classic KC albums ever since hearing 21st Century Schizoid Man the first time on the radio, I had thought that the band simply ceased to exist after Red.  But thanks to PA, got my hands on this baby which rivals ITCOTCK and Red as my fav KC album.

I have discovered a good amount of new music thanks to this incredible King of Prog sites! Especially the Italian bands. It's very hard to narrow it down to just 5 so I'll just list the albums that have moved their way into my list of favorites,in no particular order.

A harder question for me would be "what are your top discoveries without PA?"
I discover bands for the forums a lot, but also from the PA TOP ALBUM lists.

Unfold The Future- The Flower Kings
In The Court of The Crimson King- King Crimson
The Perfect Element pt. 1- Pain of Salvation
Still Life- Opeth
Mei- Echolyn
Dark Matter- IQ

Now in terms of bands, the list is even more endless than the albums

Opeth, Pain of Salvation, IQ, Marillion, Pendragon, Echolyn, The Flower Kings, King Crimson, Van der graaf Generator, The Decemberists and countless others. My music collection must have doubled since PA.

To think that in less than a year I discovered this much is proof PA is the #1 prog resource in the world.

Area, for that Luglio, Agosto, Settembre (Nero) track from their fantastic debut on their PA page from:

Arbeit Macht Frei (which again is responsible for my discovery of my current Area fave: Caution Radiation Area)

And Peter Hammill solo. When I downloaded the great selection of  mp3's that used to be here, including the masterpiece A Louse is Not a Home I ran out and bought the:

I must have discovered Kayo Dot and everything related to Toby Driver because of this place. But my first was:

Both reccomended in the nonprog section.

With PA help, I've discovered Neu!, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Capability Brown, Eloy, Khan, Robert Wyatt, Soft Machine, Strawbs, Tangerine Dream and Gong (I've probably forgotten a few as well).

Magma - Anything I can get my hands on.  Seriously, I absolutely LOVE anything I've heard so far from Christian and crew.
Caravan - ITLOTG&P and IICDIAOAIDIAOU and likely any other albums I get from them, as well as the Canterbury genre overall.
Gentle Giant - Power and the Glory, Three Friends and Free Hand - They're so good it's not funny.
Samla Mammas Manna - Maltid and Klossa Knapitatet - So good it IS funny
Soft Machine - Third as it introduced me to the Softs.
