Let's just now disregard the number of strings. Which is the one?

More than the type of instrument (bass), is who plays it.

it's about the sound of the instrument. if you know what instrument you like, you know who's good at it as well

Which is the one, for what? Your question makes me think of the statement, "the right tool for the job". What job exactly are you talking about here?

Expecting winner would be Electric Bass Guitar.
I like especially Rickenbacker type, with its Master Chris the Squirest.

Well, an acoustic bass guitar was used in the ultimate prog song, "The Court of The Crimson King", but I'm gonna have to go with Electric Bass Guitar, because of Hard Prog being my all time favorite genre, well, tied with Jazz Fusion, but still!

Hard choice: I play electric bass, but the sound of double bass is deeper (not lower, deeper), more organic... And it has this je-ne-sais-quoi noble and distinguished that the electric basses can't have.

Electric bass followed by the double. Stick would be my third choice from the master himself, Tony Levin.

This. But a double bass played by Danny Thompson would be an excellent alternative.

Notice: Stick and Warr Guitar would be joined to one option. These are related instruments with the same style of playing.

I play electric bass and double bass
However, I can say the I prefer electric bass by far, when I play double bass with my jazz band, I'm so restricted to scales and chord progressions.
But with my rock/prog band, where I'm the electric bass player, I feel so much more free, I still play in the same scales, but I don't feel the same restrictions, this might be just me being bad at playing music, but I feel that I can focus much more on making my sound better when playing electric bass, instead of all the theory you've been reading these past 5 years.

The Warr guitar is a bit different as it has the option of being played just like a normal bass as well as tapped. No vote as its all dependent on what you want it to do in the music.

Upright, followed by a 6-string fretless, then Warr-guitar Can't beat the good-old organic woody sound of an upright though... especially in jazz fusion.
