Very good musical moments, far from cheap music, with Mr Vollenweider...Not only meaning Hans, also Andreas !!

Since I've gotten more into classical, I find the droney, ambient type of electronic music pretty boring these days.   It just feels like a cop out on the big scheme of things.

^ Micahael, I have Binged, Googled, and Yahooed this thing to death and I can't get a single hit.  I spent a lot of time in the late 80s early 90s in the electronic and instrumental music world and don't remember (not that I would remember much from then anyway LOL) this one at all.  Curious what you find out!

I saw your albums listened too the other day and noticed Andreas Vollenweider, I used to have his first 4 or so albums and played them like crazy.  Such a magical and mystical sound that harp has.

Hello electronic friends, I'm hoping someone might be able to help with this album!

I recently came across this LP, and I have not been able to find a single Google result for it. It is an LP called `Insect Fantasy', it's on a Japanese label called (I think) Yupiteru. The exciting point for me was noticing that the back cover mentions two side-long pieces (side A: 22:35, side B: 21:09). From what I can tell, I think it's from 1981, so I'm wondering if it might be an electronic/New Age-y kind of title?

The spine mentions `Insect Fantasy by Oze', so that might be a hint about the artist?

I only paid $10, so no problem if it turns out to be rubbish, but I'd just like to know anything about it!

Has anybody heard it before or even have it in their collection?

Sadly I don't actually have a currently working turntable, otherwise I'd just spin the damn thing!

This is one of Aphex Twin's rarer tracks its on the 12 inch vinyl's of the original press of Selected Ambient Works II 1994 a double record, but on the subsequent CD releases Stone in Focus has been omitted and the vinyl has never been re-released with that particular track, using the CD master for newer re-releases of SAW II.  This is probably his most progressive track.

I like the old classics like TD, Can, Kraftwerk and a lot of other Kraut Rock stuff, also Brain Eno, in fact I think David Byrne and Brian Eno's album My Life in a Bush of Ghosts should get a mention.  Got into a bit of dance music in the millennium period but I wouldn't be strictly a House or Techno fan, I'm more coming from the rock end so I like the drum n bass, jungle stuff that Aphex Twin is knocking out but he has made in the past beautiful beatless ambient music as well.

More recently another artist who is influenced by Brian Eno would be Jon Hopkins from London, not strictly techno either but more about sound scapes.

Keiran Hebden aka Four Tet would be another interesting electronic artist.

Lets go to church and be good looking.

I've already ordered the CD, reviewed it for the Archives ( http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=1505446 ), listened to it many times and LOVED it, my friend!

That or because he seems like a shadowy guy Tongue

I didn't find it tedious at all, it was entertaining to see Rich jumping from one place to another and finding his way on that complicated system, especially that modular synth Shocked And best of all, see how space is created Wink

Awesome! I hope you have time to listen to them all Tongue

There's a superb performance from Robert Rich at the same convention, Sam, and it's lit much better, you can clearly see everything he's doing. I wonder if Roach likes the mystery of the shadows?! Probably something like `preferring to let the music speak for itself' etc!

I wish artists like this would release more official live DVD/Blurays, I personally find it hugely fascinating seeing what they're doing, despite the idea that artists like this are kind of tedious to watch on screen.

Yeah, my Roach collection is growing rather fertile! I've got a special CD tower that they slot into, but going by his rate of releases, it will be full within a year!

It was Michael Brückner that highly recommended me that concert Thumbs Up I haven't heard it yet, but I certainly will Smile

Me too, best background ever... light effects are overrated Tongue

Really good concert so far, too bad we can't see what he's doing. You don't have enough of his live performances on CD? LOL

That Robert Rich performance is sensational, Sam, always loved it. If you haven't heard it already, I highly recommend you look into his recent studio album `Filaments'.

Oh, and I'll be completely honest, I just get rock-hard looking at the vinyl collection that completely surrounds him on all sides in this clip!!

Here's another good one I play a lot from Steve Roach, wish they'd release this performance on a proper CD (unless they have and it simply passed me by?):

Does anybody else rate the Ishq-related releases as highly as I do? The project often goes under a variety of names, all aliases for sole member Matt Hillier, but I have bought about 15 albums over the years under the Ishq banner, and they are always absolutely superb. The CD's sell out very quickly.

Ishq is a very ambient style of electric sounds, but despite often being very floating and hypnotic, it's never `pretty' like New Age music. Lots of droning atmospheres, just enough to associate it with proper prog/electronic stuff.

One of the two latest discs `Vuutayatu' released a couple of weeks ago is another gem:

Cheers, Dave, now I have a recommendation of yours to look into, as I'm totally unfamiliar with that name!

I have about twenty Ishq-related releases, and they're always superb. Each sounds different to the last, some are drifting like this one, others have subtle beats, more world elements, some are very abstract and freeform avant-garde experimentations.

Sadly I don't think they're close to having enough obviously `prog' elements for this site, though!

Quote The album brings back memories of some of the best moments of TD. The recognition of the single tracks is very high but varies the original theme in every track and gives the familiar a new fresh coat of paint on each piece. Highly recommend and a must-have for any TD- and Berlin School fan.
