IQ wins for me against Hackett almost everytime except for when Voyage Of The Acolyte is involved.

I like Defector but it's not in the same league as The Wake.

No vote. I have not heard Steve Hackett's album. The Wake is one of the best albums of the period - in my book.

can't vote yet, I haven't listened to Defector in a really long time. I'll listen to it and get back to this.

It has to be The Wake. That doesn't however mean Defector is bad.

So hard... Gonna give it to IQ. Defector kicks ass but... lots of good albums in 1980. Not so much in 1985. Doesn't hold a candle to Misplaced Childhood but only due to inconsistency. The Wake suffers from some clunkers near the end, but the highs are so freaking high I'll forgive it.

The Wake, along with Misplaced Childhood and Contagion are the trifecta of neo-prog. It's actually an underrated album in my book as it deserves to be just as high as The Road Of Bones.

Ohhh, if you asked me 10 years ago, then definitely The Wake, which is one of my fave neo prog albums.
These days I choose Defector, since that album has grown with me tremendously.
