You know, as many others here I tend to imagine supergroups, right? Like the next Cream or E,L&P. I really would like to see Peter Gabriel (voice), Robert Fripp (guitar), Patrick Moraz (keyboards), Bill Bruford (drumms) and then...I dont know who to put as a bassplayer...I dont want to put any bassplayer who already played in King Crimson, because that would make a kind of new KC line up...I also dont think that Chris Squire , my favorite bassplayer, would fit in that good...can you help me find someone???!!?!

Jack Bruce or Jaco Pastorius I say- some of the best bass players out there, who play some brilliant lead work as well as the accompaniment. Both would work well with the jazzier tendencies of Moraz, Fripp and Bruford.

curtis mead or juan alderete

Victor Wooten can play anything.

Life seemed to him merely like a gallery of how to be.

With Moraz and Bruford, it would have a jazzy element to it, so I would go for Greg Lake (listen to his jazz bass runs on the piano improvisations on Welcome Back My Friends...). He could also help out on vocals and guitar.

Too bad Tony Levin's disqualified. He played so well with both Gabriel and Fripp! I play bass, so I nominate myself as the missing link in that supergroup. I'm sure I'm good enough.
That's a good selection of musicians, by the way.

Steve Babb of Glass Hammer. Definitely one of the genre's unsung master
bass players.

Victor wooten or Marcus Miller, two jazzbass players, but two masters of bass!

Helmut Hattler of Kraan. One of the greatest bass virtuosos of all time. Sadly hardly anyone knows Kraan (a German band). He also played with Guru Guru, short-lived projects like Highdelberg and Liliental, with trumpet player Joo Kraus as "Tab Two" and published a few solo albums.

I think Ray Schulman would fit in well with those guys. Imagine the complex interplay that he, Fripp and Moraz could come up with!

Victor Wooten,Bunny Brunel or Jonas Hellborg

If I can't agree with the Tony Levin votes, then I'll have to agree with the John Myung posts.

Percy Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Dave LaRue, Sean Malone, Billy Sheehan (maybe, and only if he cleaned up that terrible tone of his), Jonas Reingold, Ray Shulman (that WOULD be interesting come to think of it ben2112) and John Patittucci off the top of my head would be interesting...in addition to myself...

Wooten is too much of a cheeseball for those musicians.  I'm not knocking his skills because we all KNOW he can play (to make an understatement)...but there comes a point where he just sounds retarded/tasteless.   And when has Myung ventured anywhere outside of the metal/hard-rock genre? (perhaps whoever posted that was a joke)...Note: not that I don't like these guys...just saying.

Jaco is dead, I dont think he'd be playing too well in a new band now.

dead things don't talk too well, they've got a shaky sense of diction.

I agree with the Greg Lake idea. His bass run in 21st Century Schizoid Man is absolutely phenomenal.

Thanks guys, but I said no Crimsons...I know Levin would be perfect...but then as I already said it would look like a new King Crimson line up with some other name...and I dont know if John Myung would fit...isnt he too heavy?

but I did like thouse jazzy bassplayers...

hey an other question too...how would you name this band? hehehehe

Ill put it The Working Brain jejejejej

What about Geddy Lee? Nobody seems to have thought of him so far...

I thought of him, as I always do when I hear the phrase "bass guitar". He is, hands down, my favorite player. But the question wasn't "who is your favorite bassist?". I truly can't see him fitting in with the other band members listed very well. He is too much of a metal/hard rock-styled bassist, while Bruford, Moraz, Fripp are more jazzy or avant-garde. He would over-power the others IMO.

Ray Shulman would fill in fine and even add violin and acoustic guitar for depth

Going with the jazz feel, I would say Jaco Pastorius (yeah I know  hes dead, but its just an imaginary supergroup anyway) or Shulman. Jaco's fretless and Bruford's drums could sound quite nice together.

Sean Malone has got to be one the best young Baaist out there. His work in Cync show his quickness and how heavy he can play. His own stuff in Mordian Knot shows how well he can compose and become much more creative. Great jazz chops. His first album was so good that Bruford and Steve Hackett joined for his second and it was awsome. So we know he will play well with Bruford already and would fit in nice with the others.
