All right then! I'am going to suggest one of the most influential bands from Brazil to be accepted here in Progarchives.

Secos & Molhados (The Dry and Wet) were a band formed in early 1970's by Joćo Ricardo, who later recruited the two musicians that would mark the "classical period" of the band (and for most people, the only "true" Secos&Molhados): Gérson Conrad and Ney Matogrosso (today a pop and MPB solo artist). The two first albums are widely regarded in Brazil as one of the most well crafted albums of brazilian progressive rock music. Both self titles:
1973 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpqbbmJ42yU
1974 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylsWQTRZwMY

The classic period (1973-74) count with the poems of Joćo Ricardo' father, Joćo Apolinįrio (a communist portuguese poet) and concerts with great production (only register from this period are this video and a live album, both from Maracanazinho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKCrYCObq1E & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9bhbV-9z0s). The music is poetic as the poems and often full blown rock, which, in my opinion, made some people missregard the band as "glam".

As the band fought over the division of the profits and after one year of extensive tours and the two albums above, the classic formation dissolve to never play again.
Joćo Ricardo, after trying to launch a solo career, return to use the name Secos & Molhados, this time in a pop folk oriented music. Through the years, different albums with different styles came:
Secos & Molhados III, from 1978 (folk pop): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LDsSaC60WE&list=PL657DAB116848174E
Secos & Molhados IV, from 1980 (full pop): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvCbKsPouLI
A volta do gato preto, from 1988 (even more pop, argh): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxqwHEV6EI

A more interesting period came from the late 1990's, with the minimalist album "Teatro?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP7XOVxZ-pg & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc3GVPxzF_s) and the intimist album Chato-Boy (http://www2.uol.com.br/secosemolhados/pages/lyrics/chatoboy/chatoboy.htm), where Joćo Ricardo made an almost auto-biographical work.

I think the evaluation of the band should be aimed of course in the first two albums since its where we find the most complex music of them, with a post-Tropicalia and complexity mixture of sounds (psychdelic, "riff-rock", art rock, etc), one the reasons for the indication for Crossover. The bass player in an interview from 1973 stated that he consider their style are Progressive Rock (I'am looking for the link). But the evaluation also will have to take a good listen in the last two albums, that contains some new characteristics from Joćo Ricardo style. Specially the last one, with an auto-biographical poem more recited than sung.

They have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/secosemolhados

And I gues thats it. Even it they did not get accepeted I'am very happy to spread their work to new ears.

Enjoy! Smile

I'm from Brazil, you know. And they were pretty influent for spreading the prog and psychedelic tips to other bands from the same era. Totally for crossover.

Not only back them. For more than forty years people still list them as direct influence. The first two albums, of course. Wink

Guys, I'am sorry, I know you've passed to the folk team... but I was wondering about the PA definition of crossover...

"Crossover Prog contains progressive rock music that, though 100% progressive, may have a musical connection to popular music-- whether it be the lack of emphasis on extended compositions, or an influence from mainstream music in addition to classical, jazz and folk. Compositions, however, still exhibit a high degree of sophistication, sometimes outright complexity, and the musicianship and virtuosity is often on a par with established Prog acts. Much like their kin in the established prog sub-genres, these groups will incorporate many major parts of what defines prog rock: the fusing of rock with the structures and discipline of more traditional musics, the use of syntheisizers and new technologies, intelligent thematics, and the expansion of the form."

I mean, are you guys sure to pass Secos & Molhados to folk? Brazilian folk expresses in different terms, like A Barca do Sol, Marco Antonio Araujo and Quinteto Armorial...

I wait a lot to say this here because I was thinking about it...

*bump*

BTW, I'm really curious to know what happened with this band. Apparently they were considered suitable for PA but I've seen no new actions.

Gustavo (GKR) as long as I know have the bio and also albums to add. Cool

it's a confusing history that I can sum up this way:

they were referred to crossover
3 crossover people all thought they were a better fit in prog folk
2 prog folk people (ClemofNazareth and I) thought that this group is the poster child for crossover prog.
It sounded like they were thinking about reevaluating, and asked us for more examples of prog folk so they could understand the world beyond Tull.

Both Clem and I will take them in prog folk if crossover definitely doesn't want them.  There is a note about being referred to eclectic but I don't think that happened nor do I think it should.  So stay tuned, and so sorry for the wait, Gustavo Ermm

I'll definetly stay tuned, dont worry.

Well, the time on wait actually give me time to made their bio and my reviews on the albums... so, once in PA, it will be all very fast. Approve

Glad, but another ridiculous example of Crossover being added to Folk because "it's brazilian and do have some flute".
