We are excited to be able to make three tracks from our most recent
studio album, Regaining the Feel, available in a relatively new format
called "weed." Weed files will play on any Windows machine (not Mac)
and allow the user to play the song three times before s/he is required to
buy the song. In order to encourage listeners to circulate these files
digitally, Weed offers a rebate on files others buy that you have purchased
and shared with them. So if you listen to a song and decide to buy it, the
file is imprinted with your weed account ID and you pay 99 cents. When
the next person buys that particular file, you get 20%, the next pays you
10%, and the third pays you 5%. Ultimately, the song may only cost 65
cents after rebates on subsequent sales.

The "weed" concept is to encourage and enable a band's songs to spread
out on the internet--thus the name of the company. Rather than fight
downloading, the idea is to take advantage of it. If all works correctly, the
artist not only gets more exposure, but also gets paid with each sale at a
rate just a bit less than other digital download services. For more info,

Yep, that's a down side of these Weed files: PC only. We do have three files
in the Live Bootlegs section of our site that are regular mp3s and free to
download.

Go to www.landofchocolate.com/livebootlegs.htm and you'll see them there.

The Weed folks promise future compatibility with Mac, so we'll see. BTW, I'm
writing this on my G4 Powerbook, so I can sympathize!! jc

I have both LOC albums and would say it's well worth it. These guys play a high energy style of progressive rock that should appeal to old hairless proggers (like me) and those searching for something new and different.

Try WEED and get high off Chocolate.

We're using ProTools, though I've heard Digital Performer is a bit more
flexible. Still, I'm pretty happy with ProTools and haven't bumped up agains
many of its limitations yet..

We've been thrilled with the response to these new Weed files. Now that
some time has passed since we've made these available though, I'd love to
hear back from anyone who has downloaded the Weed files. What do you
think of the format/approach?
